Size of photos for listings?

What size should the photos be when I upload them? I've noticed a couple that (when they show up in search results) are off center. Ty

Re: Size of photos for listings?

Your picture should be cropped and sized to 570 pixels wide.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

570 is the minimum. Etsy recommends about 1000 pixels wide so that your customers can click on the photo to enlarge it and see the details more clearly.

I use 1000x750 for most of my photos... this works especially well for the all-important "first" photo because that is darn close to the proportions of the thumbnails that come up on the pages so you know exactly what they will look like and that important parts won't be cropped off.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

PS: I generally set my more vertical photos to about 800 px wide so that they won't end up *too* huge when they are clicked on. Some images (like most of my "modeled" photos) don't crop well at 1000x750 so I use them for my other photos, but usually not the "first" one.

The thumbnail is 1.26 x 1
I usually don't look at the pixels, but I do always keep the ratio at 1.26 x 1 for the first photo.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

I noticed my thumbnails were a bit out of focus so I uploaded a bunch that were just under the correct size and then I have my original image as a second so people can zoom into the close up detail. That's made my gallery look cleaner as a whole.

I was trying to figure out how to make it clear to shoppers so that it doesn't just look like a duplicate picture but I don't want to have text plastered over the image. I may put a border around it and include the "close up", "zoom" or "Click to Enlarge" text on it; but for now I guess it's okay without anything.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

@Morgan: Yeah, the thumbnails being a bit blurry is an issue for me too, and I haven't found a good work-around for it yet. I don't think doing two identical photos is a great route to go, but maybe it is if it's flat work like yours. I feel like for objects, you should use all 5 photos to describe what you're selling from the most angles.

I just kind of deal with it, and hope that Etsy will figure out a better way to do our thumbnails, that won't reduce the quality so much.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

i use the 4in by 6in ratio at 300dpi. i've never noticed having blurry thumbnails. i don't use squares. rectangles look better in the actual listing, imho.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

Daisy you have really cute things. I would also try to do at least four more photo shots to add to your listing. I noticed you only had one photo for your listings. Different angles and such so that a customer has more views and pics to look at. Just a suggestion.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

I am in the process of loading up item images for my shop opening. I am using Picasa to crop all photos to CD Cover (Square). Then I Export and change the Image Size Resize To option to 640 pixels. Can anyone tell me if I should be changing what I am doing before I load up more photos? All info is welcome and appreciated.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

I just do everything on 800. It uploads faster. If you leave it the original size you will have to wait forever! Good luck :)

Re: Size of photos for listings?

Most of my photos are 1000 square. For scarf photos they are usually 800x1000 for one of the photos to show the length, then I do close ups at 1000 square.

Re: Size of photos for listings?

I usually crop my photos to square and then add a little back on to the sides that way what I want in the shot come up whether it be in list or gallery view...
