Should I increase my prices?

Specifically for the seed beaded items?
I haven't been selling much of it, but at the same time, I'm not really happy with what I'm charging, given the amount of work that goes into it. I realise that a lot of seed beaders don't bother selling their work because of the sheer amount of work that goes into it, but I'm a little unhappy with charging only $15 for a bracelet that took me a few hours to create. I'd be much happier with $20...
Any thoughts?

Re: Should I increase my prices?

It seems your prices are much less than average (at least here on Etsy). I find that lower prices don't always constitute more sales... charge a price that you are happy with : )

Re: Should I increase my prices?

Are you covering your costs, paying yourself a decent hourly wage and making a profit?

If not then by all means raise your prices.

Re: Should I increase my prices?

As Crochetgal said above, absolutely raise your prices if you are not paying yourself a decent wage! Most people make that mistake in the beginning of thinking if they keep the prices lower they'll sell more...not true at all! Price can mean the difference between a quality, handmade item and a piece of junk to a customer. Some won't look at you at all if your prices seem overly low. Definitely make sure you pay yourself for your hard work!

Re: Should I increase my prices?

I totally agree that you should raise your prices! There is no point making and selling things for such a low price. In that case you might as well use them for gifts or send your time doing something else! At the very least you should be giving yourself a decent hourly wage plus cost of materials.

Re: Should I increase my prices?

The simple pricing forula they give around here is
materials + labor + overhear + profit = wholesale price x 2 = retail price.

Each person has their own version, even I change in up a bit. But this is a good place to start from...

Re: Should I increase my prices?

You could easily charge double for this bracelet. Raise your prices girl!

I also suggest working on SEO (titles, tags, description) and filling up all five of those photo slots.

Re: Should I increase my prices?

Your prices are not so low in my opinion, you can raise it a little... But the main problem may be the lighting of your items. Your photos need more brightness. ;)

Re: Should I increase my prices?

Ok thank you so much for all the help!

I'm actually a little afraid to tackle my photos... I'm working with a less than high quality camera, although I haven't read through the owners manual... it's definitely on this weeks agenda now though! :)

Re: Should I increase my prices?

You have pretty things. Why don't you get a few sheets of colored foam and play with your pieces against different colored backgrounds. I can't tell how you do it but for my best jewelry photos I take my foam and jewelry outside in the brightest sun to photograph them. Your shop will be pretty too with all the different colors of backgrounds.
