Shop sections ideas

I sell jewelry and I had my shop sections : Necklaces, Earrings, Bracelets and Jewelry sets - simple as that.

Then I found an article on section titles saying that they must be strong key words too.
I thought, since every jewelry seller will have sections named by item types, I had to find something different.

I tried to sort items by group of colours - like red and pink, turquoise and blue. But with only 10 sections available there will not be enough space for all colours. Some of my items come already in sets, some are matching each other and some go solo. Not sure what to do with that.

To group by styles I am lacking knowledge. To me, everything I make is mostly boho or ethnic. When I hear this advice " Think as a seller" - it gets me desperate because I am not a native English speaker and can not think with words and terms buyers may use and think easy.

Does anyone have any good ideas on how to make shop sections work?
A question to jewelry sellers: how do you learn terms? I check other item descriptions, read through tags, I have already learned some names for parts or item types, but I am still confused with many words. Would really enjoy a glossary:
Statement necklace is this..... explanation..... photo examples, lariat is this......... etc. The same goes about learning styles.

I have been editing my listings for 3 days now and I am stuck, need help!
Should I create new section titles? Or should I go back to Earrings-Bracelets-Necklaces?

Re: Shop sections ideas

I don't know about sections being keywords. I think you should go back to earrings/bracelets/necklaces - keywords are all well and good, but you want your customers to be able to browse your store easily. Personally, I don't want to have to check three sections if I want to see all your necklaces, you know? And if I'm looking specifically for purple/amber/whatever ones, I can search for that color within your shop.

I'm not great at SEO, so take that with a grain of salt, but yeah, in terms of sections I'd definitely prioritize neat human browsing over keywords.

Re: Shop sections ideas

I have checked many jewelry sellers already and many have necklace-earrings-bracelets. Different sections come up only if a special style-technique-material is used.

I am just learning SEO too, with a lot of sweat ( salt, LOL), and I have seen in some online shops selling gemstone jewelry that they have like double-tagging: sections by colours and sections by stone type. That is nice if you have your own site and unlimited number of sections, but wouldn't work on etsy. I was just thinking of something in the middle.

Thank you Lix, will wait for more opinions and hopefully term advice. And then - back to editing! :)

Re: Shop sections ideas

Using keywords for sections was recommended to me, too. So I changed my sections but it wasn't working for me and I changed them back. I currently have my necklaces and bracelets divided into two different techniques. And although I don't have many items for the sections, I separated out the children's earrings and the gender reveal bracelets.

Also I found that when I wanted to name a section as birth announcement bracelets it cut me off for too many characters. I ended up using gender reveal bracelets.

I think we should be able to include some items in more than one section. I would like to have a Pearl Jewelry section but have the pearl jewelry also appear in the earrings, necklace, and bracelets sections.

As I think about it more, maybe the limited number of sections makes the seller focus on a limited number of styles in the shop, creating a specific focus and making your shop seem cohesive.

Re: Shop sections ideas

Thanks, Rita!

I agree about pearl jewelry and it would be nive to have items show in 2 different categories at once But we have to make best use of what etsy gives us.

Just done a little bit of google adwords research and going to change some of my sections back.

A question about learning more terms still stands!
Is there a better way than looking at other descriptions on etsy? ;)
