Shop Sections????

I'm always messing around with my shop sections and still don't seem to have them right.

I was just wondering how important shop sections are, when it comes to search results?

I shop by section. If the sections are confusing or they don't have any and have over 50 items, I generally move on to another shop.

Your sections look okay to me. What do you not like about them?

Shop section titles are very important for search engines. It's my understanding that the order you put them also affects search results. This thread is helpful on learning about sections and SEO.

Thanks Judy and Julie, when you have a variety of different items in your shop, it can be difficult to decide which section to put them in.

I was wondering which is more advantageous: to organize items by subject matter in shop sections, or products?

For instance, right now I've got my shop sections in things like this:
animals
scenery
floral
etc
I thought that way, an animal lover could see my photos, necklaces, journals, etc. when they go to the animal section.

However, now I'm wondering if I should change my sections to the items. For instance:
photographs
coasters
necklaces
journals
etc

Any ideas which way will get me more sales? ;)

Nancy, I prefer to shop by item. I think it's easier.

I've found that shop sections are extremely useful for shop navigation. As for SEO I really don't think the names matter at all.

However, with the new Etsy layout, once a customer is looking at a specific item, there are no links available to get back to that specific section.
