Shop Name

Hi!

I am debating changing my shop name from 'Emma Lemma Lou', which I have used well before Etsy was "born". I started with baby items and I continue to be happy with that genre.

But, lately I'm having fun embroidering dates and names for frames or pillows. I also work off-Etsy with interior decorators making window treatments, bedding and pillows. This type of home decor stuff does not sound "emma lemma lou-ish" to me at all.

Was considerig using 'Karen Carr Designs'. Any thoughts on using your REAL name as a store name, or do y'all think 'Emma Lemma Lou' could adapt to ALL of my creations?

I yield to you experts...

Thanks in advance!

Re: Shop Name

Just my opinion, I think Emma Lemma Lou sounds like a designer name. I definitely get a feeling of whimsey from which goes well with baby items. But I still get a strong sense of high end designer too, and I think the other items would go well with it. That said, I think it could go equally well separating them. Opening a separate shop means twice as much work. Not just for making the items, but managing the shop, orders, and marketing. I think you would do fine keeping them together, but if you can't imagine it then open the second shop! Just keep in mind the amount of work you will need to put into it!

Re: Shop Name

A name is a really personal thing. I guess the thing would be how well known you are by Emma Lemma Lou? I like the name actually--it's cute, different, and fun

I'm not really fond of shop names that rely on the person's name and the word "designs"--I kind of prefer names that tell you what it is you're selling (of course I should talk, mine isn't really obvious that I sell art), and "Karen Carr Designs" doesn't tell me what you're designing. Why not Karen Carr Home Decor? Or Home Decor by Karen. Maybe the baby stuff fits into home decor?

I could be talking out of my hat but really think hard about the effort you may need to make in re-establishing your brand under a new name. I know that when a well known local business recently changed its name they advertised for months that they were doing so. Are you really sure this is something you HAVE to do to reposition your business?

Re: Shop Name

Many thanks to the both of you! That's all I needed to hear; that Emma Lemma Lou sounded "worthy" of gown-up home decor items.

I have a lot of yes-people around me, and sometimes you just have to get a more objective and anonymous opinion. :-)

Have a great week!
