Shop Int'l shipping policy changes ... are they okay?

Hi there ... I just changed my shipping policies. I've had a problem shipping to a couple of East Asian countries. The stuff just hasn't arrived ... ever. I KNOW international insurance is expensive and would deter all Int'l sales if I required it, but, on all the occasions in question, I have had to replace the jewelry, and pay to re-ship it -- as I know it is my responsibility to get it there no matter what, and I don't want bad feedback on top of the financial loss. But, it is one thing to take the chance on a pair of earrings ... which I will do, but what if someone buys a few hundred dollars worth of stuff? I want to be able to protect myself. Anyway, here's what I added to the bottom of my shipping policies:

"There is generally no insurance offered on International orders. It can be done but it's very expensive -- I will quote it upon request. I do reserve the right to insist on international insurance in some cases though, on larger international sales, paid by buyer, to some countries I've had issues with. This will be the buyer's prerogative completely, and I will amicably cancel the sale if the buyer refuses insurance. Thanks for your understanding. Please feel free to convo me with questions."

2 questions: Does this follow Etsy rules? Does it sound okay? (it sounds a bit harsh to me ... I'd love some softer language suggestions if you've got any.) lol. Thanks so much!

You cannot charge more after a sale is made. If there are certain countries you are repetitively having issues with I would charge a higher shipping rate to cover the cost of the insurance.

Also, insurance does nothing for the buyer, it's a seller tool. The buyer gets nothing out of it. If their order does not arrive you will have to refund or reship, thus not affecting them.

hmmm ... good points. Maybe I should just not ship to the couple countries in question. Sounds easier than changing the shipping charge for one or two countries...

Insurance is there for the protection of the seller as its the seller who files the claim and receives the insurance proceeds. So if you feel that a package needs to be insured, you can simply pay it yourself.

You can limit the countries that you are willing to sell to if you like, but you will be really limiting your sales IMO as there can be a problem with a package not arriving to a Canadian destination just as easy is to a European one or an Asian one.

Insurance isn't really that expensive when you consider it. If you are purchasing postage online, the cost of insurance is about $2.50 for $200 worth of insurance.
