Hey everyone, I started my Etsy shop - almost a month ago now and I had a few sales right away (10 plus a custom order for 30 of the same thing) and I was super happy since I had just opened by shop... I was also advertising free shipping when I first opened but changed it to a discount since I didn't realize how crazy expensive shipping was with Canada Post (and I was actually losing money!!!!) For the last couple of weeks, I've had a lot of views but no sales :( Is it the shipping prices? Is it my products? What should I do!?!?!!?!??!
That's awesome you were doing so well right off that bat! I agree, just relax. Add lots of items, constantly update your SEO, and promote promote promote!
What it is? Being a brandnew business! It takes years to build up a successful business, not weeks. In the meantime, just work hard on your shop and your products. You have room for improvement on your use of keywords and keyword phrases in your titles and tags (you want to read up on SEO). And what are you doing to market and promote your products?
PS: underpaying yourself brought you business, but no profit and not even payment for your work. So you don't want to go in that direction again.
Michelle, your shop looks great and I think your prices are really fair. I think it's typically a slow time for us sellers right now, but keep your chin up and keep on promoting!
The only thing that I noticed is that your shipping cost to everywhere else is actually lower than your Canada shipping. Would you lose money if you shipped something to the US? Just make sure to cover yourself for international sales.
Thanks for all the advice... yes I do need to read up more on SEO! It's actually cheaper to ship to the US if you can believe it! Canada Post is really unsupportive of small businesses.... I'm also doing a photography workshop this month with an Etsy team from Winnipeg so I'm looking forward to that!
