Shipping

How does the shipping through etsy work? Is there an article that gives specifics on how it all works? Or you can just tell me how you use it.

I am thinking of giving it a try.

Re: Shipping

It's great! A commercial based rate with tracking included. Follow the instructions on your sold item where it says add shipping. Print label and cut it out and tape it to your package. But wait!!! You will need a postal scale (or take it to the post office) to see how much it will weigh..... get a scale. The first few times I guessed and overestimated just in case.

Good luck and happy shipping!

Re: Shipping

Thanks BeaG

Linda: Would it be a scale like the ones they sell at Office Max? I think they are like $60?

Re: Shipping

No I got mine at amazon they have a great variety. I have seen on forums where people even use food scales that weigh in ounces. The dreaded walmart has a postal scale for like 18 bucks. It is an order item but then you can pick it up in store.

Re: Shipping

The scales are really inexpensive on Amazon. Don't get a larger one than you need. For example if you never ship anything over a few pounds, don't waste your $$ on a 50 lb scale. Buy just what you need. They're great! And Etsy shipping is soooo easy!

Re: Shipping

Shipping on Etsy is the same as purchasing shipping labels anywhere else except that through Etsy (or paypal) you pay the commercial rate. Slightly less than you would at the post office counter.

Since you already know the weight of your items when packaged (you needed that information to set up your shipping charges) you simply plug those weights into the shipping label form and print the label.

Then attach said label to the package and either drop it off at the post office or arrange for a pickup.

Re: Shipping

I don't use the shipping on Etsy I go through the Post Office myself; not that you shouldn't, I'm happy working it out myself.

But here's an important tip: Regional Rate boxes. they come in A,B,C sizes and it's MUCH cheaper to ship from PA to MA than the regular priority. As an estimate from $6 to $11. If you are shipping say PA to WA it's going to be pricey either way. You do have to put in the weight of the item you are shipping.

Have fun! Get your supplies from the Post office. Saves on boxes. :)K
