Shipping issue

I recently had a buyer tell me his item was damaged due to the post office leaving it outside in the rain. He should take this up with the post office, right? Or should I just replace the item?

I want to give good customer service, but there was nothing I could have done to prevent that from happening. Once an item is shipped, are sellers responsible for their items anymore?

Let me know what you think!

Re: Shipping issue

It all depends on whether you want this guy to buy from you again or not. Most of the blame falls on the post office, but there might have been something done during packing that might have helped prevent the item being damaged even if placed in the rain for a short bit.

Put yourself in his shoes - he's bought something off the internet, it arrives and he can't use it... so he's basically wasted his money - do you think he's just never going to use the post system ever again (for fear of this happening another time) or is he just not going to buy from you?

I always send a replacement if my items arrive damaged, because I always find there could have been better packaging on my end to help prevent the situation. It's just part of customer service.

Re: Shipping issue

What a bummer.
You can call the PO, but normally they do absolutely NOTHING.
If you want to provide good customer service, you'll have to replace the item.
Your always responsible for the order, even once it's shipped.
B/c if never receive it, say the PO loses it, they can just get a chargeback on their cc and you'll lose out.
it's a bummer.
