Shipping/Return issue

Well, I have a customer who purchased 2 wreaths and wanted to know how soon I could get them shipped out. I told him 3-4 days, I got it out in 3.
Somehow, UPS didn't get it in their system until 2 days after it was picked up which in turn prolonged the arrival date.
The Customer contacted me today and said he told me he needed it by friday for a party saturday. It is Wednesday now and the tracking of the package dates it for delivery on Monday which is after when he needs it. He has threatened to want a refund for the package. I called UPS and was willing to pay extra to have it expidited to him and however, they say that they cannot do that because it is already in transit. I spent the past hour trying to figure out something for him and even offered to make 2 mnore and have them next day air to him, however I cannot afford the $185 to do that. I told him that if he was willing to pay the extra I would send out 2 new ones and have the other 2 sent back to me.

I'm curious on how to handle this or if I should be doing something different???

Re: Shipping/Return issue

I don't know how UPS works, but with USPS you can refuse an unopened package and they'll return it to the sender for no charge. If it arrives after Saturday, he might be able to refuse it and have UPS return it to you. You can then issue a refund after it's back in your hands.

One question, is there proof somewhere that shows UPS picked it up two days before it entered their system?

Re: Shipping/Return issue

If the buyer needed them to be delivered by a specific date then they should have communicated that information to you at the time of the purchase.

Then you could have made sure that the appropriate shipping charges were billed so that they arrived in time.

Simply asking 'how soon can this be shipped' does NOT imply that they are required to be delivered by a specific date at all.

After the package is shipped is NOT the time to request expedited shipping.

Re: Shipping/Return issue

Thanks, Well it turned out that after I called him out on NOT telling me that he needed it by a certain day and that I am not responsible for shipping times unless discussed before hand, he dropped the issue.
