Shipping Return Fees Mine or Shop?

I bought a jacket advertised as waxed leather on etsy.

Once seen I found the jacket doesn't smell of leather, doesn't look leather and doesn't seem leather but faux.

The shop accepted my return but wants me to pay the shipping fee because that's their policy.

I believe that because the jacket it's no leather and was induced to think so by the way it is advertised the shop should pay the fee in the amount of £ 16.96.

Who do you think is right, me or the shop?

Thank you

I would say you are right. The item was misrepresented.

Re: Shipping Return Fees Mine or Shop?

What does the shop's returns policy say? Are they acting in accordance with their policy? It sounds like the item wasn't what it was described to be, and I think they should pay the return shipping.

If you're unable to reach agreement with the owner, you can open a case as a last resort.

Re: Shipping Return Fees Mine or Shop?

Sonia,

I find it interesting that you have publicly expressed concern over the return shipping. Looking through your own shop policies you quite clearly state that you will accept returns for any reason, but the return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. Is this not the exact situation you find yourself in as a customer?

Re: Shipping Return Fees Mine or Shop?

The first thing I do before making any purchase is to look at the shop's return policies. If I'm expected to pay for the shipping for a seller's error or misrepresentation, then I automatically shop elsewhere.

But if you look at your own policies you state (and I quote)
"""If for any reason you want to return items bought, you have 14 days from the day
you receive the order.
Return postage is buyer responsibility.
It is advised that you obtain a certificate of posting from the Post Office (or overseas equivalent).

A full refund within 14 days, will be issued after receiving the item in good condition."""

So based on that you shouldn't feel put out about having to pay the return shipping yourself.

Re: Shipping Return Fees Mine or Shop?

If the item is listed as leather and not faux leather they should be obligated to pay return shipping since it is not as described. If I made that mistake I would eat the shipping cost and learn my lesson.

You should file a complaint with paypal or direct checkout. Even if they have a certain policy your buyers protection may protect you from this situation and side in your favor. Item not as described!

Re: Shipping Return Fees Mine or Shop?

Thanks to all and I agree with Urban Couture that if I misrepresent an item or the buyer finds it not as described I will oblige to my policies and pay the return fee.
Because if it was as described meaning leather I would have kept it.

Now I don't know how to make them pay for it and a part from filing a complaint with paypal
do you have more suggestions on how or what to make them pay the return fee?

Thanks

Re: Shipping Return Fees Mine or Shop?

I do not have all the facts, and do not know what you wrote in your complaint, but I recently had a similar situation (not the one I quoted above) and PayPal resolved it to my satisfaction.

Briefly, I purchased a set of charms. One charm was missing. I contacted the seller (not an Etsy shop) several times. They did not respond. I opened a complaint with PayPal. I requested that the price of the charm + partial shipping costs be returned to me. After a certain period of time, PayPal decided in my favor and reversed the full amount, shipping and all. I did not have to return the items I did receive (which felt really weird, because that was not my aim).

My items were not costly, that was PayPal's reason for not requesting that I return them - they stated that the cost of shipping was not worth returning them. I think herein lies the key. I only requested the cost of the missing charm and a portion of the shipping charges I paid for it to be sent to me.

It may be that you will receive the full amount you paid (item + shipping) because that is all that will be recovered from the Seller, but if you have to return the item, maybe you will have to pay for shipping yourself.

I would call PayPal and ask what their policy is in this type of situation.

Please let us know how this turns out.

Hi Maria,

have returned it and decide to wait for the refund of the jacket before taking action on my return shipping fees.
Will keep you informed.

Thanks
