Seventeen Magazine is featuring one of our items in a photo shoot!

So I'm loosing my mind over this, in a good way. Someone from Seventeen Magazine convo'd me yesterday asking about one of our pieces. She wants to use it in a photo shoot and wanted to know about our return policy and shipping speed. I was skeptical at first, until I reread the message.

She didn't want it for free. She wanted to purchase it outright with the possibility of returning it after, AND the address she needed it shipped to is the Seventeen Publications building.

Has anyone else done this? This would be my first time in a major publication. I've asked about being given some sort of use of the photos. Or being sourced in the magazine, but I haven't heard back yet. They've already bought the item, and I will be shipping it out today.

Can anyone else give me advice on how to proceed? Is there any 'do this, not that' advice?

I've never been contacted like anyone like that. I don't know why they would want to return it. Plus it is going to cost you to relist it and find someone else to buy it. I would tell them that they can buy the item but, sending it back wouldn't be worth it on the long run. I'm probably not the right person to answer this question. Hopefully someone else has a good answer to this.

Our policies allow returns up to 30 days. For a legitimate publication feature, I have no problem allowing them to return, and from what little I know that is standard practice. Since you can't buy this kind of advertising, I'm more than happy to accommodate legitimate publications with their needs!

This is a great opportunity. Now, I have never heard of a publication asking to buy the product and then return it, that is a little unusual. But I would Google the person's name and see if they are on the magazine's masthead. Then go for it. Ask them to let you know when it appears (could take months) and then once it does appear you can use this press for credibility with customers, i.e. "as seen in Seventeen Magazine" plus you can circulate the online article even more through social media.

I've heard of them returning merchandise before. I'm it worried about it a all. The 5-10.00 ill loose overall is minimal compared to the potential ROI. But the person I'm shipping to is on the Masthead.

I would ask to be credited in the photo by URL but if not, the name of the shop would work too.

If they publish your shop url, this is a great promoting opportunity!
Make sure to have more similar items in stock.
And if you do social media sites and/or blog, spread the word.

Congrats! I would definitely accept a return but state that it has to be returned in the original state it was bought including all packages.

That's so exciting! I had this happen to me about a month ago ~ everything checked out right but I still haven't gotten the item back. I'm getting a little skeptical now. :/

Daria, be patient. Sometimes it will take a couple of months from what I have heard. Did they buy it or just 'loan it' from you?
