Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I know it the handbook it says that this is a no-no. But why is it that I see stores that are doing this. Is this something that Etsy just doesn't enforce?

I am trying to build a website right now to compliment my Etsy shop and I am trying to figure out the best ways to do this. Do any of you have a website and if so would you mind sharing the link so I can see what others are doing?

Thanks
Shelly

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I,m not sure but it is my understanding that you can"t sell the same things as on your etsy store. I would like to know if you could sell different things on your own web page. I hope someone out there knows. I want to know too. Be following this thread

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

Not in the same situation since everything I make is custom, but you could make a website, use your items from etsy as long as they link right back to your listing on Etsy. I don't think that would be wrong. You can set up an Etsy mini shop right in your website that will use your listings from Etsy (this is what I am doing) then, they can browse your website and if they want to purchase it will take them here to Etsy. This will work unless you wanted to build your own e-commerce site, then I believe the rules are you can't have the same item for sale somewhere else. It could be the same type of item though, just not the exact ones on Etsy. So you could make some for Etsy and some for your website, I feel like that would be within reason.

Can you add a Etsy Mini to any site? Is there a link to your Etsy Mini that I could see?

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I think you are misunderstanding. You're allowed to sell your items on your own website, how could they possibly stop you. They're your creations and they don't own the rights to them, you do. The only thing you're not allowed to do is post your website on etsy because it's fee avoidance. :) have fun and good luck with your site!

Also we have the etsy mini on our site - hullstreetstudio.com under the page green

My understanding is the same as Erica and Jeb- you just can't post your website info on Etsy.

Also. I do want to mention PLEASE don't judge my site right now I'm in the middle of an overhaul for it to match our branding and it's so not up to par!

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

AH yes that's what it was, as long as you don't put your website here on Etsy you can sell the same things elsewhere. Just be careful, if you have them in both places and both sell, make sure you have more than one or can make more than one!

My website is horrific right now or I'd share... seriously my boyfriend is awesome at web design but apparently only for his own things.. ugggg. I'm getting him to work on it and make it better, right now it has bright green un-readable text! If only I knew how to code I would fix it myself...

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I sell things on my website that I sell here - I just don't link to my website from here. That's what is not allowed.

HULL STREET- I noticed that you have a blog on your site. (I know you are still working on it). Do you find this to be better than having your blog posted on blogger, wordpress, etc.)

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

It was certainly easier to do the wordpress through our own site rather than through theirs, just made it easier to have everything in one place than have to switch over.

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I have a bit of a different question regarding personal websites, if that's ok. My website: www.jewelrybychar.com is set up through Prestashop and it isn't user friendly or customizable and there is no customer service. It was the cheapest option I could find at the time if I wanted to have a shopping cart on it. I'm looking for something else and trying to decide what to use. Have been researching www.shopify.com and wonder if it's user friendly and provides customer service. What are you guys using for your website? Do you recommend it?

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I think would be odd not be able to sale the items that are in your Etsy store - unless through Etsy...
Suppose someone comes to your house and wants buy something that you posted in Etsy. What are you going to do? Are you going to give to this person a computer so he/she can buy the item in Etsy?

I have Mini Etsy in my website, so people can see some of my list. Note that the link leads not only to your store in Etsy but to Etsy Home Page. The link to "Etsy" stays on top (above) your Etsy link, so people will tent to click first in Etsy Home Page . LOL
Well, anyway, I don't sell anything in my webpage, it is kind of my blog thing.
I am trying to set a list of tips on how to give gifts - from shopping things to make stuff. Still in the beginning... but I hope I can make it ok in 6 months

HI CHARLENE, my daughter is a web-designer and she can set up shop cards and all kind of stuff in people's website. Her price is really good. She has a lot of templates, and you can choose from there.
She gives 24 hr support. If you want more info send me a convo.

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I'm bringing this back up because I'm interested in perspectives that people have on two things-

I believe it's against the rules to provide a link on Etsy to the website where you sell the same things as here, and yet I see shops that do this. Are there very obvious loopholes for this rule? I wouldn't report a shop, but it does bother me. Then I think- why should I care?

Second- I do think about creating a website or maybe selling on another inline venue, but I wonder- how on earth would anyone find me? Is it realistic to imagine getting more business on your own independent website than on a firmly established site like Etsy? I hope this question makes sense, and I appreciate any thoughts on it.

One option is ShoppePro for a stand alone website. I personally love it and the customer service is unbeatable in my opinion.

Re: Selling your Etsy items on your website?

I guess my question is more- does it work? How do you get found? Do you promote it, and if so, how? Etsy has been pretty good for me, but I need to do more if this is going to be a real business that can generate real income. I just am not convinced a website will really bring me the exposure I'm looking for.
