Selling on ebay

Okay so I have had my shop for over a year and sales are pretty slow. I do everything mostly off etsy but i still have a lot of inventory left that id like to sell so i can work on new items. I have been getting a lot of custom orders and I would very much like my old items to sell too. I made a Pintrest today and I hope that helps with views and sales ( my friend Sarah told me it would)
But i was wondering if anyone of you have had luck with other websites, like ebay? I have thought about selling on eBay a few times, though have been a bit uneasy on the idea, because i have had some issues with it in the past. But i am willing to try it again assuming i get enough positive comments/feedback on it.

as far as etsy goes, i am trying to get make my shop look more pretty ( as far as better photos) but i have been sick last few weeks so i haven't had a chance to get that done yet. hopefully ill be able to get better photos - i hope to do them outside.

any feedback on this topic would be great...i will be using it to weigh in on my decision

Thanks

Re: Selling on ebay

I personally haven't sold on ebay, and don't really plan too. For me, I associate ebay with people who want a bargain. Not someone who is willing to pay full price for a handmade item. I know a lot of people have had a lot of success on ebay, but it's just one more ball in the air for me, and I would rather focus my energy here. So that is my two cents, take it for what it's worth. :)

Re: Selling on ebay

I agree with Kylie, Ebay is for bargain hunters.

Most people who sell handmade goods on EBay under price their items and probably don't make any profit, which is pointless. Personally I'd rather give my items away as gifts to appreciative friends then do that.

I also prefer to focus my energy on my Etsy shop.

Re: Selling on ebay

I sell on Ebay. I charge approximately the same prices here... it's up to the person if they want to pay that amount or not. I've had a lot of success with it.

Re: Selling on ebay

I started on eBay. I did sell one or two items, but didn't make any profit because the selling and listing fees are too high. Plus, if you type in handmade earrings on eBay most earrings only cost £2 compared to my £16. No one is going to buy from me!

eBay listing system is incredibly slow and a hassle. It crashes regularly. Me personally, I wouldn't bother.

Re: Selling on ebay

I currently sell on ebay but not much items. It depends what you sell and I price my items the same as here. I only use the first 50 items so it's free for listing. I say give it a shot and see what the target market is.

Re: Selling on ebay

I have thought about selling on ebay. I do tend to buy things on ebay that I need like, my new phone, or a pricing gun which has been crazy awesome. I'm thinking of selling some of my remnant fabric on there because I don't want it to make my store seem trashy. My mom is opening up an ebay to sell things around the house that are no longer needed.

Re: Selling on ebay

I sold on ebay - very successfully - for years. However, times have changed & their final value fees are outrageous - making handmade a tougher profit margin. They are NOT where my target market hangs out - but I personally head there when hunting for a bargain ! Like PBC Supplies days - I take advantage of the free listings when I want to blow out some left over craft fair items - and my listings always have a link to my Etsy shop for custom order requests - which ebay has never removed! Free advertising is how I see it!

Re: Selling on ebay

I may list some of my supplies that i am trying to sell on etsy - those i don't mind selling fairly cheaply because they are left over and are taking up space in my room.

Thank you all for your input!

Re: Selling on ebay

My thought...if you have old unsold inventory that just will not move for you, possibly a "spring cleaning" could be in order, in which case some of the prices are dropped a bit lower than normal and listed on ebay to get them out of storage.

I have inquired with some folks about selling on ebay myself, and for silver rings, it has been consistently suggested that I don't mess with auctions but instead just open a shop there and offer my lowest movers (that won't sell on etsy)

Re: Selling on ebay

I actually got in trouble for listing a link to my Etsy shop on ebay...so be careful ..I had to remove the listing. Ebay fees are very high and people are bargain hunting..I don't recomend it. How about making a sale section of your current shop?

Re: Selling on ebay

I would recommend 'Dawanda'. I also have a shop there and I don't have as many sales as etsy but I get extra sales from Dawanda. So try! Good luck with your business :)

Re: Selling on ebay

I've sold on eBay off and on since 1998. Some things sell better there than other things. Some artists seem to be doing ok there. Last December, for example, I sold about $400 on eBay (mostly handmade ornaments). When I tried again in February, I sold hardly anything.
