Selling Off Site--Fee Avoidance?

So I've been invited to sell my jewelry at a craft fair. The thing is, a good percentage of my items are listed here on Etsy. I'm eager to participate in the craft fair, however I'm not sure of the protocol or etiquette here. If I sell an item at the craft fair that's listed here on Etsy, is that considered fee avoidance?

The way I read the ToU, by listing my items I have granted Etsy a NON EXCLUSIVE rights to sell and advertise my content. I read this as saying that I can sell my content off site, so long as I don't re-direct buyers via Etsy. I'm hoping I understand this correctly. I really want to be sure to operate within the rules here.

If items I have listed in my shop do sell else where, do I just deactivate the listing on here?

I think that's all my questions for now. Thanks so much in advance for any help you give :)

I would just deactivate the listing. Now, if someone had seen it here, and you asked them to buy it off-line...THAT would be fee avoidance. Someone who sees it at a craft fair? I don't think that counts as fee avoidance.

But I could be wrong.

That's the way I understand it, too. When I have done craft fairs, I deactivate the listings while at the craft fair so items don't get sold twice.

Re: Selling Off Site--Fee Avoidance?

I just did my first antique market a couple weekends ago and deactivated the items I took to the item the night before. After the fair I reactivated the items which hadn't sold.

I gave out business cards at the antique market with my etsy address... so who knows I may actually get some Etsy business out of it!

Good luck!

You're right about the TOU. Deactivate listings for items you can't remake, though you don't need to deactivate made to order items or things you can make again. Good luck with your craft fair!

I agree with Anne's comment!! you can temporarily deactivate a listing....redirecting FROM etsy would be fee avoidance...otherwise it's just good capitalism =)

Re: Selling Off Site--Fee Avoidance?

no .... Fee avoidance is if you link up an other site..and/or say and you can buy it here!

If you sell one of YOUR items else where before it sells on etsy...thats on etsy really. This is just a platform a table to put your stuff on.

Just delete it or deactivate.

Re: Selling Off Site--Fee Avoidance?

I recently sold an item to a family member off-Etsy. I deactivated it as soon as she told me she wanted it, then deleted the listing completely after the sale. I wouldn't call it fee avoidance. It was silly to ask her to set up an Etsy account and pay me online when we see each other all the time. Since then two of my coworkers have bought jewelry through my Etsy shop because they have accounts here.

Re: Selling Off Site--Fee Avoidance?

When I work at a craft fair, I usually just put my shop on vacation, since my whole shop stock comes with me to the show anyway. It's totally not fee avoidance, I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Selling Off Site--Fee Avoidance?

I know how you feel, I was worried about this at first, cause I do weekly artist showcases at the local Resort ....what I do is deactivate anything that I dont want to worry abotu getting sold twice, or if something sells at the art show, I immediately deactivate it, or remove whatever items sell on Etsy from my show, so as to avoid double selling something. Has worked pretty good for me so far.
I also keep some of my items JUST for the show and JUST for etsy, as I usually dont have time to list ALL my inventory...hope this helps!

Re: Selling Off Site--Fee Avoidance?

Thank you all so much. I was pretty sure it was okay, but I wanted to make sure. I'm so excited about the craft fair and how things are going on here...I didn't want to do anything to mess either up. Thanks again, have a great weekend!
