Selling Destash- Does it devalue the stuff you are already selling?

On another team I am on, they are discussing selling destash at craft fairs. Some people are saying that selling destash can possibly devalue the items you currently are selling.

I understand selling it. Trying to rid of the stuff you aren't using. But I never thought of it devaluing the rest of your store since your shoppers can now see what you are paying for items to use.

I personally sell some destash (brand new bamboo knitting needles, two used like new knitting needles and some new insul-brite), and they're all within a dollar of the price at other stores. I can't see this devaluing my other items, but I could be wrong.

Thoughts/opinions?

I think that's fine for you. Knitting needles are only the tools; while you're selling something that needs to have a certain level of craftsmanship. Don't mention the time it involved...

Happy knitting!

I'm ok with it as long as there aren't too many listings of destash to bog down the rest of your shop's pages... I just don't want to have to visually distinguish between many destash listings and a smaller number of handmade listings when I go through a shop, it just requires too much effort lol.

I honestly don't think selling destash items in your shop devalues the handcrafted items at all.

I started off selling only handcrafted items and had so many requests for supplies online that I started selling the supplies as well.

But the supplies that I sell online are generally NOT the ones that I use for my own handcrafted items.

Could you explain what DESTASH is please.
First time I've heard of it.

Thanks

Destash is basically old supplies or your "stash" that your trying to get rid of.

I sold a few items that I didn't know what to do with. Very inexpensive ones and then later on I sold my most expensive piece yet. I don't think it devalues the store. When you look at the sold items list, it doesn't say how much the item sold for.

Re: Selling Destash- Does it devalue the stuff you are already selling?

I started with one of my sections to destash. I didn't get many takers. It didn't devalue anything in my shop. I have since opened a second shop to sell destash and it has much better sales as a result. In fact, it is busier than my 1st shop. That gave me a back a precious shop section for my jewelry. I think it is better for your shop to keep the variety controlled.

Destash doesn't necessarily mean its junk. I buy items in bulk to save money, but I don't need 10 clasps all in the same style or 700 feet of 26 gauge copper wire all at once. When I started out making jewelry, I couldn't afford bulk buying. Now I can and can share some good stuff with fellow jewelry makers.
