Selling Advice

Hi everyone!

I'm hoping to start a thread where each person gives shopping advice to the person who posted before them. Most specifically advice on getting their shop ready for the holidays.
Also consider photos, banners, tags, description and pricing when you are giving them advice on their shop.

My question is this: What I am doing wrong? I've had my shop for around 9 months now and my sales are not that great. My shop doesn't get many viewers on a daily basis and I could really use some advice : )

Re: Selling Advice

Hi Abby,

I guess I'll have a go at it! I'd love some feedback too!

I just have to apologies ahead of time for rambling! I write a lot!

Right now treasuries have gone from Halloween oriented straight to winter holidays. To get into more treasuries, maybe you can consider taking new images with holiday oriented props so that you'll be in treasuries more often, and it'll catch the eyes of holiday shoppers more? Use reds, candy canes, acorns, etc etc. I love your images where you use book pages as the background, so maybe focus on that background. You're definitely off to a great start with how you're photographing your jewelry.

If you aren't making treasuries yet and have the time to join a team or two, I'd definitely go for that. Joining treasury making teams really helped to increase my page views. I'm going to send you an invitation to mine if you want to join, I'd love to have you on it.

I'd also suggest having more merchandise. I've found the more listings you have the more chances you have for people to find you on Etsy. Especially during the holidays, I think people like having options.

I would consider working on your shipping prices. Lower those to how much you're really spending on shipping supplies and actual shipping, and add the difference to the actual price of the piece. As someone who knows shipping prices, $6.50 for a a piece that weighs probably less than 3 ounces packaged is a little excessive and might shy away international buyers.

i think buyers rather pay more for a product than shipping.

I would definitely look into jewelry trends right now as well. The following are in season right now: gold pieces, stones, quartz pieces, geometric pieces (which you do have some of). Invest on sterling silver or 14k chain, good rocks, and settings, and you'll be able to make pieces that you can price at more than you're charging right now.

My favorite pieces from you are your small beaded necklaces, they're super cute and the geometry is in style, I would make that your niche and make a lot of similar pieces and raise their pricing.

Take a look at the following necklace that reminds me of your green beaded necklace. It's one of my favorites. It's priced 3x as much as yours is.

Don't be afraid to charge more for your jewelry. Take a look at what other's charge for similar jewelry. Low pricing can actually be a turn off for buyers. I would at least double your prices. If you feel like they're not worth that much, make more intricate designs until you feel comfortable charging at that level.

Your work looks very clean cut, which I love, so just keep working at it and don't give up! You have good work! and you're off to a great start!

Hope this has helped!!!

Best,

Sandra :] <3

Re: Selling Advice

Just took a peek at your shop.

You have some lovely jewelry.

Here are a few suggestions I have for you. Now, I am no expert, so please take all this as simply my opinion. Not everyone will have the same opinion as me.

Work on your pictures a bit. A nice clean background maybe? Nothing competing with your item. Need to get closer to your jewelry (macro setting on your camera) and lighten them up a bit.

Work on your tags. If you have a title of "copper dangle earrings' you should also have that as one of your tags. Also things like copper earrings, dangle earrings, green earrings, etc. Read up on SEO and the new Relevancy and then tweek your titles and tags.

Your prices are a little bit low. I would raise them if I were you. Read up on "perceived value" to understand my logic in this suggestion.

Work on your descriptions a little. SELL your item. As a customer, I don't really care where you bought your supplies. I want to know why I can't live without this item or how wonderful it would be for me.

Take this blurb out of your profile.
Looking back at the first things I made, I would say I've come a long way. Although I definitely still have a long way to go and still a lot to learn.

Keep listing new items. You have some great stuff, keep up the good work. More items means more ways for customers to find you.

Do you have a Facebook page for your business? A twitter account? If not, I highly recommend getting them. If you do already, do the new link up so people that visit your shop can "like" your page and "follow" your twitter. Then you can use these tools to promote your shop. Just don't be "spammy". It's about making connections with people, not just feeding them links to your shop.

Now remember, I am just giving suggestions. I think your shop is great and could be fantastic! Just keep working.

I wish you many sales!

Re: Selling Advice

I really like the idea of this post, but right now I'm too new to Etsy to help anyone else out... I need all the help I can get. I'm not sure what to look for when critiquing everyone else shops. So far all the ones I've stumbled across seem lovely.
