Sections Question

I have my shop broken down into different sections, but because some of my jewelry falls into specific categories I have not placed them in a general section like, "bracelet" and instead placed them into a section like "verdigris woodland" despite the item being a bracelet. Can anyone take a quick peek and let me know if this is confusing or helpful when visiting my shop?

Re: Sections Question

I tried switching mine to jewelry styles, but I get more clicks on my sections when I leave them as bracelet, earrings, necklace, etc.

I think simple is better unless the sections get too big, and then I think they need to be broken down further.

Re: Sections Question

as a buyer, I would recommend keeping it simple (bracelet, ring, etc.) You can always cross-link related items in the listing description.

Also, sections used to be important for Google ~ I don't know if that is still the case, but that would be a big reason to keep them straightforward :)

Re: Sections Question

I think the basic sections are better (necklace, bracelet, etc.) Beautiful work!!

Re: Sections Question

Chris has a point, you can link to your other items in your listings. For instance you can say, "I have more tribal jewelry listed here:", and then you can link to all your tribal jewelry.

And yes Chris, google does look through shop section titles, which is actually an argument for having titles that aren't as simple as necklace, bracelet, etc. I tried that, for example chainmaille bracelets, rustic jewelry, but I didn't notice any difference, other than I had less visits to my sections.

Re: Sections Question

I just moved all of my Verdigris jewelry into appropriate basic category sections, I think I will test the waters before making the final switch. @Amy what do you mean about the google section titles? I'm a little confused

Re: Sections Question

If you add a link to each of your listings for a certain type of jewelry, you can just do a search from your shop homepage and link to the search. For example:

https://www.etsy.com/shop/SimoneSutcliffe/search?search_query=Verdigris+Verdigris

will link to a search for all items tagged or titled with "Verdigris". I set up my in listing searches to double a term so that it gives the same results, but it doesn't skew my search phrase results in stats.

Re: Sections Question

I just meant your section titles in your shop, and that google looks at those as well as the rest of your listing during searches.

Re: Sections Question

That's the thing - Google reads your section titles. And people search Google for bracelets, not for Verdigris Woodland... though they might be super happy to *find* verdigris woodland.
