Sales slump - what happened?

I’ve been on Etsy since 2011 and I’ve had pretty good success throughout the years. Last year I almost hit 30,000 in sales. I’m a star seller who regularly gets 5 stars in every category, with great reviews from customers. All of a sudden this year everything changed. Traffic to my shop is way down and barely any sales. I don’t get it. I updated my shop for gift mode when Etsy changed that but since then my traffic has been a fraction of what I had before. I know the economy is down and people don’t have much these days but I think there’s more to it than that. Yesterday and the day before I listed new items. I always had traffic when I did that before but not now. So I went into Etsy as a guest to search for items to see if my things came up. I searched for my exact titles and now realize my items never even came up. I went through pages and pages and started getting other types of items but none of mine. So it seems I’m wasting my time and now very discouraged here for the first time. Is anyone else having this problem? This is the first time I’ve considered other outlets to sell but I may have to if this continues.  I am an experienced seller: here I’ve updated tags, have good photos, even included videos now…. If I’m not showing up in searches despite these efforts something is broken.
is anyone else having these issues? I think maybe something changed in the algorithm that left me out of searches or is the economy so bad that no one's is getting sales?

Re: Sales slump - what happened?

It isn't just your shop. There are scores of pages with Sellers stating the same thing. The algorithm was changed and like you, I am a long time seller whose business and traffic shut off like a faucet. I have also noticed when I am searching for something and specify "United States" in the filters, I am not only getting a ton of shops that state they are from the USA and are not, but half of the search results aren't even related to the search terms. Also, because you posted your comment, be wary of being pummeled by creepy spammy, fake shops in your messages, trying to offer you advice. The entire situation is simply maddening. Just hang in there and know you aren't alone.
