If we don’t answer your specific question, I encourage you to read through all of the posts we’re about to respond to as it may have been covered. We’ll highlight Admin answers so that they will appear on page one of this thread for easy viewing, but don’t forget to refresh the page to see responses as they are posted. (Fun fact: if you want to jump to the page of the actual post, click the timestamp of the highlighted post).

We will be in this thread live until 2:00pm EST.

Our goal is to provide answers and keep a productive conversation going. Let’s stay on track so we can get the most from the discussion. Bonnie Hillsley from BootifulLabels:

Here are my questions.

Will there definitely be an EDIT function to allow us to add and remove listings, and modify sale dates etc without having to delete and start again?

How do we delete a sale? I have seen people state you can delete a sale, but I don't see that option on the sale page, is it only available before the sale starts?

If we choose to setup a sale on a whole shop or a whole section in a shop, could we have a feature (as happens with the EtsyonSale app) that automatically adds new listings in the shop or section to the sale when they go live? This would allow shops to have a regular sale section and simply move items to this section while a sale is running, or due to start.

****

Great suggestions, Bonnie!

Editing listings and whole section “syncing” are at the top of our list of potential additional features, though you are able sync your entire shop by not selecting any listings.

I agree it’s frustrating to not be able to edit a sale if you’ve accidentally made a mistake; we’re balancing easy management with buyers’ shopping experiences. Sales & Coupons should be thought of as temporary promotion campaign tool, rather than a bulk edit pricing tool -- but that doesn’t mean management should be difficult.

Thanks for your input. We’re thinking about it.

Question regarding Coupon Codes
When we will be given the ability to see our old inactive (but still highly relevant and useable coupon codes). Many codes I turn on and off for brief periods of time or for a seasonal flash sale. These codes are not ended, simply sleeping until I need them again.
These should be reflect in our current list of codes as "inactive" as before

****

Hi Patricia, I apologize for the delay in old coupon data. We intended to have it sooner, but it’s taking longer to migrate than expected.

It’ll be coming soon, but please know that coupons are no longer able to be re-activated. This is to ensure the new analytics provide an accurate look at performance over set promotion periods.

That said, you are able reuse coupon codes (you just can’t have two active coupons with the same code). Further, it sounds like a “duplicate coupon” feature would save you time, so I’ve noted that down.

Thanks for trying out the new tool!

town-o from towno:

What happens when two sales overlap? I have a sale on right now thru August 31, which was set-up before the Labor Day announcement went out. I created a second sale that will begin on August 31, so on one day both sales will be "active." Both are my entire shop listings 20% off - does this aggregate, i.e., will someone get 40% off on August 31?

****

Really good question: there is no “stacking” of promotions.

To protect sellers, we’re allowing only one promotion, whether sale or coupon, to be applied to a listing. So if you have multiples sales and coupons running, buyers will receive the combination that results in the highest discount, but never two discounts on one item. The best combination is automatically determined for them at checkout and only factors in the coupons where they’ve clicked through the shareable URL.

Another detail to be aware of is that only one sale is displayed per search result or listing page. So if there are multiple sales on an item, we display the one that’s likely to be most appealing to buyers -- the one with the highest discount and no minimum threshold.

There are actually cases where it makes sense to allow stacking, so please let us know as your promotion strategy evolves, town-o!

someone just purchased one of my sale items but I noticed they have paid full price. this person purchased as a guest to etsy. does that mean the sale price only applies to customers using an etsy account?

****

That is unfortunate, Amy!

Do you know if the buyer actually saw the sale? We just fully ramped sales to 100% for buyers yesterday, so if this was before 8/22, it’s likely that the buyer wasn’t included in the sale experience yet.

If the buyer did see the sale, please write in to support, and we’ll investigate.

Glad you didn’t lose the order!

Hi Jo, you’re only able to create free shipping coupons right now, and coupons are not exposed anywhere on Etsy. They’re intended to be a way for you to offer a promotion to a specific audience.

That said, we’re actively exploring free shipping sales, and those would be highlighted on Etsy. I agree with your thinking -- stay tuned!

That is a great idea, Tina.

We want to give sellers time to get used to sales before more aggressively marketing them to buyers, but notifications like this are on our list of potential features. We need to figure out how to entice buyers with them without overwhelming them.

Re: Using sales to clear out unsold merchandise:
An important reason to have a sale is to clear out unsold merchandise. There should be an easier way for a seller to see what items have been renewed too many times, then choose those items to add (without having to toggle between Listings Manager and the "create a sale" page, and then having to run a search for items one by one).

It would be helpful if we could create / name a sale, then, in Listings Manager, click a box to add certain items to a sale. Is there anything in the works that will make this easier?

****

Hi Laura - thank you for this comment. This is a great suggestion! We will definitely take this into consideration.

1) It depends on which type of sale you create. If you create a sale that's for your entire shop, new items will get automatically put on sale. If you used our bulk upload tool and only selected items from your Car Accessories section, for example, then if you put new items into Car Accessories, those new items will not

2) When we originally designed the sales tool as a temporary promotion campaign tool it made sense to have a sale's max length be 30 days. By creating a temporary campaign, sellers can continuously re-evaluate whether a sales still strategically makes sense for their business. I'd love to find out more from you and other sellers what your appetite and strategy is for running on-going sales.

Perhaps I missed this question, but what happens to items that are renewed during a sales event? Will they automatically be included in the sale if they were on sale prior to renewing? I believe during the "preview" period, there were reports that renewed items were not showing the sales price. Thanks!

****

Hi Sharon! Thanks a lot for your question. Renewal should not affect whether or not your listings are included in a sale. As long as your listings remain active for the whole sale period, they’ll be included. We only ramped up to 100% of buyer yesterday (8/22), so it’s possible that’s why some buyers weren’t seeing sale prices. Sorry about the confusion!

The announcement said we could review the sale and I've not been able to do that. I want to see what the customers will see when the sale starts.
How do I do this?

****

Hi T R - Thank you for the question, and apologies for any confusion about the seller preview period.

Before yesterday, any seller who created a sale or coupon using the new tool would be able to see how sales would generally appear to shoppers on Etsy (e.g., how the price appeared on listing pages, in search results, etc.). As of yesterday, sales are visible to all shoppers on Etsy, so you should be able to see how sales appear for yourself.

However, it's not possible to "preview" a specific sale you have created before it goes live (e.g., see how a specific listing looks with a specific discount before it's visible to anyone else on Etsy) though this is something we may consider in the future. Hope this helps!

My wish list:

+ Ability to Edit, both to include new listings and to adjust dates.
+ Percent off - allow any whole number. Don't limit to 10-70% in 5 percent increments.

These are all good suggestions, Kathi!

See my response to this post for editing: https://www.etsy.com/teams/7722/discussions/discuss/18454051/page/9?post_id=383443337

As for promotion options for sales, we decided to keep things simple to start for buyers. Additional percentage increments, dollar off discounts, and listing-specific minimums can make for more effective sales, but they require thoughtful shopping experiences in order to not frustrate buyers. For example, listing-specific minimums require a way to browse exactly which listings qualify for the promotion.

You’re probably aware that more options are available for coupons, and that’s because you have more flexibility to communicate details when sharing. We’ll be studying how buyers are responding to existing sale types before expanding sale options.

Thanks for more great feedback -- and your continued support in the forums.

When you bulk upload listings in a section, those are the only listings that will be on sale for that campaign. Susan R. from EthnicBeadShop:

My apologies if this question has already been asked: I'm trying out the new sales tools and have created a Labor Day sale.
My question: do I need to deactivate my coupons while the sale is going on?

According to Etsy: "You can only apply one sale or coupon to a listing." This statement isn't clear to me.

I have 500+ listings, 86 of which will be in the sale. What about the other 400+ listings - can customers still apply one of my coupon codes to them?

Example: if a customer purchases 2 items from me, and one of them is in the sale, yet the other one isn't, and my customer uses one of my store-wide coupon codes, I just wonder how the new tool will be able to to differentiate between the items.
How is this going to work?!

****

Hi Susan, thanks for your question. Sorry it wasn’t fully clear! Buyers won’t be able to apply multiple discounts to any one listing, but the buyer can apply different discounts to different listings. To protect sellers, we’ve made sure that buyers can only apply one discount to any one listing. At the same time, we want to make sure that buyers have a great experience, and are able to take full advantage of discounts. In the example you gave, the buyer would be able to apply your store-wide coupon code to the item that isn’t in the sale as normal. If that store-wide coupon saves the buyer more money than the sale, it will replace the sale. Otherwise, the buyer will get the discount from the sale, and not the coupon. Hopefully that helps!

Hi Dee J! Thank you for the interest in the Labor Day sale. Sellers who scheduled sales to occur over the period of August 31 - Sept 4 by August 22 have a chance of being featured in Etsy's marketing materials for the Labor Day sale. Any sellers whose listings are on sale during the period of August 31 - Sept 4 will be part of the temporary Labor Day shopping page, even if they create a sale after the deadline. 100%. Deleting a sale/code (once ended, for example) will be important to keep that list of sales from getting too long. Mine is already long enough to have to scroll down and in a matter of months it will be unmanageable.

Already once I also wanted to be able to "open" a sale to see which items were included and I found I was unable to do so. That's a problem.

Yep I just came here looking for a way to edit a sale too! I need to add new listings, the sale is not going live for a week still. Please add this functionality.

Yes! Please! I have added numerous items that I would like to include...without backing out and recreating my shop sale.

Good morning, I went to the link but did not see an answer as to how we add new listings to our current sales. I just added a few new listings and I see that they are not part of my current sale although I did add in those sections of my shop when I actually created the sale. Very confusing.
