SPAMmers on Etsy?

Hi everyone!
Yesterday was an odd day for me. Within 2 hours of each other, I received messages from some 'bloggers' wanting my product and in return receiving a blog about my product.
Has anyone received anything similar to this? I really hope Etsy isn't becoming a place for SPAM to thrive!
Wishing you all the best in your shops,
Kelly

I received one on my FB page. In order to be "featured", one must purchase an ad for $47 - really?!

This has been going on forever. The delete button is a very handy tool.

Re: SPAMmers on Etsy?

I haven't been getting spam, but I have been getting lots of requests to sell my items in people's stores on consignment. These stores are all in the States (I am in Canada.) I just don't fee comfortable doing that I don't think I would make much profit. They take no risk, and I take all the risk!
(if these stores are even legit.)
I have been saying thanks for the offer, but no thanks and that if they buy over a certain amount, I can give them a discount. I never hear back from them!
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do?

I haven't been getting spam, I know I would delete it right away unless it was a WELL known blog like Bower Power or something.

Re: SPAMmers on Etsy?

They tend to come in batches like that - I've never understood why. If it really bothers you, there's also a Report as Spam button at the top of each convo.

Re: SPAMmers on Etsy?

I'm getting something a bit different - requests for "donations" for charities I have not heard of with the promise they will promote my shop during an event - as others have pointed out - the delete button is a wonderful friend.

Re: SPAMmers on Etsy?

@Shelly...Earthchildart. I get that a lot with jewelry. It's really funny to me that to open a new store they purchase LOTS of inventory but then when it comes to jewelry they want consignment. And I'm talking stores here in my home town I can walk into and talk to owners.

I made a policy decision when this started coming up...if you think my stuff will sell...buy and participate in the profits. I too have a limit, I ask them to purchase to be considered for wholesale.

good luck.

Re: SPAMmers on Etsy?

I use a standard response along these lines

Thanks very much for considering my xxxx for review on your blog. I'm flattered!

My policy for anyone who wants to 'review' my products is that you first purchase the product and I will provide you with a discount code to use in your promotions.

For each $100 worth of sales that discount brings to my shop, you get a credit of 10% of the product price.

That way we both benefit.

If this is agreeable for you, please go ahead and make your purchase and I'll include your exclusive discount code for use on your blog in my confirmation email.

---------------------------------------------

Of course I very rarely hear back. But if I do and they go ahead with the purchase I'll send them a discount code (NOT a coupon code) that must be entered by anyone who purchases as a result of seeing the blog post. That way I can track the traffic directly from the blog.
