SO CONFUSED, relevancy?

I know there have been lots of questions but I still don't understand.

I re-list every day, this morning I thought I would check relevancy search again before listing, to see if I can understand better as my brooches don't get so many views.

I started by putting in 'Brooch' my first clay brooch appears on p.6 and my first felt brooch appears on p.9, not too impossible considering the broad search but can any one help explain why titles like

deposit on a ruby red heirloom brooch, ( 7 words in for relevant search word) and
Bridal vintage large flower rhinestone brooch, appear on page one before my 'felt brooch' or 'clay brooch' on pages 6 & 9?

On recency I appear on page 10 (before re-listing)

I thought I was supposed to concentrate on making the first three words most relevant!

On 'felt brooch" search I appear on page one which is great but I would still like to understand why my titles are not working so well on 'Brooch" search.

hmm, I was comparing your tags and they seem great ... but i see what you mean, only this one turns up for Felt Brooch - it is first though...

Sometimes a different spelling in your tags?? For instance I use mould and mold ... try it maybe?? Brooch and Broach :)

Titles and Tags do matter, but also if you have multiple items in the same store on the front page. See this post here from Natalie on the relevance of tags and titles. There is a portion of the search algorithm that they are not sharing.

Thank you for your reply TartMoldsByK, and Marumadrid. Thank you for the link lilbabybumble, It's very interesting, I've read through most of the discussion but still don't understand how to optimise my 'felt brooch' in a 'brooch' search.

What are exact word pairs? And how do they put something like 'Bridal vintage large flower rhinestone brooch' above 'felt brooch' or 'clay brooch' in a 'brooch' search?

I think I understand the third criteria which is designed to stop one shop flooding a single search, that's good but still doesn't explain how you might get one item into a relevant search.

Have you tried putting "brooch" as the first word in any of your clay or felt brooches? That might change things up.

For example this listing:

You could try:
"Brooch Hand Painted Pin in Clay, Knitted Badge, green eyed girl"

And see if that moves you around. I'm not sure if it would work or not. I've been playing around A LOT with my titles and tags. I'm trying to get at least one of my items on the first 3 pages in general searches. I then leave that title and tag alone, then work on another listing to get it ranked higher on another general search. In that post above, it does say specifically that you won't be found multiple times in the same general search in the first listings or so because you are from the same shop. They are "spreading the wealth" you could say.

I hope that helps some. I'm finding it to be more of a search and hunt kind of game with my listings that I'm renewing sold.

I have some of the same questions. I am listing new items or relisting daily as I have been for a year now. With the relevency/recency change my views have gone from the hundreds daily down to 20 - 30(sometimes fewer) views a day.

This is NOT helpful for business!!!

Your lovely brooch pins may not be on the first few pages, because so many others also renew and list to have their items on the first few pages.

Its just crazy right now, more changes and yet nothing is working for many. The search should work for us all, not for a handle full.

For this one, I think you should move circus cat more to the front of the title.

I think "cat brooch" is a more likely search than "drawing brooch."

Oh my goodness!!! quinnknits!! I have the same exact questions!!! I've changed all my titles, and tags, and for the life of me, I don't understand why for the life of me, when I search "rocker girl tutu" I'm on page 4 or 5. Ok, but, why is one of my rocker tutus, there, and the other 3 rocker tutus, with the same title (but different colors) same tags, don't even come up anywhere in the list!! I've spent so much time the past few days changing, working... I have been checking my shop stats as well. I went from hundreds of views daily to double digits. I don't understand it!! The blogs and whatnot are very helpful!! No matter what I do, I just can't seem to get the one up! Good luck to all!!

TangledMetal, I just wanted to say thank you for your link. I think I am beginning to understand tags but it still doesn't explain why a 'brooch' search favours titles with the word brooch 5 or 6 words in over a title with brooch as its second word?

Is it that brooch has to be repeated multiple times in tags and descriptions to make the title work?
