Renew or list?

Does renewing a listing give us the same results in the pages as placing a new listing? Thanks for any help. Cheryl

Re: Renew or list?

Cheryl, I think that's a bit of a mystery! Listing activity every day (renewal or new) is a plus. Also, I have noticed that when my shop gets above 100 items or so, I seem to get more views. So I'm focusing on listing new items to get back above 100.

Re: Renew or list?

I definitely found, this past Christmas season, that my listings that were renewed got better placement in search and browse. The best placement was with items that are favorited, viewed, and especially sold. If I made an item that was OOAK, or no longer available, then I tried renewing or relisting with a similar new item. And it got great placement too!
So I say, if it's gotten favorited and a lot of views, always keep using that listing, even if you change the description, title, and photos (of course). You earned it!

Re: Renew or list?

I think that the guys from Marmalead just did a webinar and they said that there wasn't any difference between relisting or renewing. I just set everything to automatically relist and I often get multiple sales on the same item. I assume that people are seeing it on the "new items from your favorite shops" feed.

Re: Renew or list?

Cheryl, we've found the same as Cindy, renewing listings definitely improves our sales, the listing seems to hold its place, even if you change the item if u get what I mean? We relist regularly and just factor it into our marketing budget 👍🏼

Re: Renew or list?

I find listing new items very effective. More items means more exposure, more tags, more stock, and finally more chances to be found.
Relisting helps with items that already sell. Relisting items that do not sell is a total waste of money.
For my shop the best practice is to list new items, renew items that sell and put on sale to local shows all the items that do not sell.

Re: Renew or list?

I usually post from my Marias Workshop shop, but this matter pertains to my jewelry shop. After being put on vacation for a while (which I think was detrimental), I reopened this shop in January and changed the name. I really made an effort to reach the 100 item mark. Maybe it is because the jewelry field is so very competitive, but even when I have been listing and renewing regularly, it seems that views are coming in at a very, very slow pace. I have only had three sales since I reopened (by the way, one of them came from purchased ads). If it continues like this, I will consider shutting down this shop and just keeping my bead shop and doll related shop. I am somewhat disappointed because I thought that by reaching the 100 item mark, things would start to change.
