Regular or Registered Post?

I sell photo prints. I am wondering for orders over $50, I could charge $7 for regular international postage or $14 for registered international post.

Would you give that as a choice for the customer, or would you state in your shop policy that the postage cost would change once the order is over $50 (which I am currently doing)?

If you were a customer, would you prefer a choice?

Do you think it's even necessary for a $50+ order to be registered?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Re: Regular or Registered Post?

If you are sending the $50.00 order registered because of insurance, you can send it regular and purchase insurance if you are purchasing you shipping label through etsy. I would offer registered as an option in orders under $50. If it is "your policy" to send $50 dollar orders registered, and that is the only way you want to ship it, then in the listings over $50 that should be your shipping cost.

Re: Regular or Registered Post?

We use registered post for over $50, for the peace of mind. We absorb a little of the cost to make it competitive international. Only had a few go that way so far, but we haven't had a problem.

We do have it noted in our shop policies that we are happy to register all prints, but no one's interested when it's the cheaper stuff. Damn Aus Post does nothing to help us stay competitive there!

I know! Postage has been on my mind since I opened the shop. Just can't be sure what's the best way to go.

Re: Regular or Registered Post?

I offer registered shipping for every order over 50euros free of charge
but I always notify my customers that they have to sign to receive the item
I don't think it's proper to charge someone for register if they haven't ask for it , especially when you send everything else with simple mail
