In the past two weeks I have been receiving an array on different convo's. One person commented on a sale I had and asked how much I made. (rude!) and then when I didn't respond wrote back that it seems like the recent economy is NOT affecting my sales. I have no idea what that was about. Then I got a few asking about my technique. I have no idea how to write that out...plus I really haven't the time right now. and then I received one requesting I go to a store to buy something for them and ship it because the place they want it from wont sell it over the internet. I feel like these convo's come straight from the Twilight Zone. Those are only an example of a few....Is this normal? I want to be polite and answer these emails but at the same time a few are stepping over boundaries. Asking em how much I made on a sale is something I found rude and I was way uncomfortable w/ it. I just want to have an Etsy shop and be groovy.
Yea... Twilight zone music was playing in my head while reading this. Maybe it's one person making multiple accounts? I think the best thing to do is to ignore them. Your last sentence made me laugh..love it.
No, this is NOT normal. Especially the one asking you to purchase something and ship it to them (unless its maybe a team member). In the case of "how much did you make" I would probably politely decline to answer. "I'm sorry but that is confidential business information"
But over all I would definitely be wary about the convos you are getting
I agree totally twilight zone. I don't know if you are better off ignoring them, or writing back and just say if they have any questions about ordering from your shop you will be happy to respond.
I think your Etsy shop is groovy and I love your art.
I would ignore all of those Twilight Zone convos too! That is confidential business information that in my opinion doesn't require any reply. By the way, your Etsy store is super groovy! I expected "paintings" and was happily surprised! What is your technique? lol just kidding! lol :)
I agree with Simone and I would contact Etsy about it. Those questions are not normal and either someone/s enjoying messing with you or they are just off. Either way, it needs to be stopped.
I would answer with something to the effect of "How about I come to your job and ask you all the details about how you do it, then ask how much you make at it?" I agree, totally weird.
I AGREE TOO with most all t hat is said. IGNORE............... I love when i hear stuff in my head like "twilight zone".............. and people dont belive God speaks to them................. uh huh... Thank you for all the responses....I feel like I am heading back to reality. I am totally digging being a part of the Etsy world. It would be a drag if I let anything deter me. Just makes me uncomfortable. I just wouldn't send a convo to somebody unless it was business related and appropriate. Hope everybody has a wicked groovy holiday season! ♥
This is strange! I rarely get messages but my sister says she gets messages all the time at her shop asking about where to buy supplies to make what she makes and how to make the things she makes! That seems very bold to me! I can't imagine asking somebody how they make something and where to find the supplies to make it!
LOLOLOL...this just made me laugh! People are SO WEIRD sometimes. It's so "Twilight Zone". WTH is up with the person asking you to be their personal shopper? That's hilarious!!

We should definitely have a "strange convo I received" thread.
I've had people ask me to buy stuff for them and ship it since they can't get it in their country, but it usually has been a former customer who knows I'll look for special requests. I've done it before, with no problems. Out of the blue it's a bit strange, though.
That is very bizarre! Especially since there seem to be quite a few "weird" convos! I agree with other posts and wouldn't bother with a reply. LOVE your shop!
I wonder if yo have someone creeping on you that is using different accounts....very weird. Definitely ignore them...I would not even answer. Hopefully the sicko (s) will get bored and go away. You sound pretty groovy to me!
Yeah, that's pretty odd. I would probably just ignore the convos and hope the buyer would go away :) I have had someone ask me to custom make them wall decals- I sell nursery mobiles and wouldn't even know where to start in making wall decals. I politely steered her towards other Etsy shops which specialized in what she was looking for :)
Wow! Beautiful shop! Maybe it's just the season, I've been receiving some odd ones as well, but nothing as strange as you've said! As others have suggested, I ignore the strange ones, and try to be as polite as possible with the rest.
Your shop is amazing. I think it is other "competitors" who are just messing with you. especially the one who is asking your technique. Your pieces are so unique and amazingly beautiful. I could look at them for hours. Beautiful.
I get a lot of "how do you make that" questions in convos and also at art festivals. It's usually other glass artists; we're all obsessed with technique. I don't mind answering those questions, usually they are just curious.
But you did get a couple weird ones! I especially love the "how much do you make" type question. Whew, nervy!
