Rearranging my listings

Any suggestions on how to rearrange my listings? I've had a couple different people point out to me today in critiques that at first glance looking at my shop, it looks like I only sell supplies because that's all there is on the front page (apart from my featured listings). I currently have my listings set to show in order of when they're listed, but that's apparently not going to work any longer since I started selling supplies. I tend to list supplies in waves and crafts in waves, and thus the supplies all get lumped together and take up entire pages.

I don't want to list by "highest price," because that seems off-putting to me, as well as I just don't list things that are that expensive very often so the listings would look like they aren't changing. I don't want to list by "lowest price" because that would also show mostly supplies on the front page, since the cheapest items in my shop are supplies.

So I'm trying to come up with a new "custom" sort pattern, but can't think of anything that'll work.

Ideas?

Re: Rearranging my listings

What about by color? Or since you have have so many different items in your shop, why not make each line (every 4 items) a different type? So one line of cozies, one line of supplies, one line of ornaments, etc.

I've actually tried sorting by color before, when I first started here, and it didn't work out.

I see. Especially since you have so many listings. (A good problem to have!) I only have a few pages, so I can sort by color.

Re: Rearranging my listings

I started out that way, but yeah, once my listing count started climbing it got pretty hard to maintain! I'm just not a huge fan of having to go in and reorganize everything every time I list one item, ya know? That's why I switched to defaulting to sorting by date listed! I just can't seem to think of another low-maintenance alternative. Thanks for your help :)

Re: Rearranging my listings

How about something different in each row, alternating between products and supplies? A row of cell phone cases, a row of zippers, etc

Re: Rearranging my listings

Here is a good example of why I continue to scan the discussions on this team site. For all I've read and read and read, I somehow missed the fact that I can custom rearrange the handcrafted magnets we have listed! And I SAW where you could change that a long time ago and never even realized that's where you rearrange things! So once again, I thank these team discussions (especially this team) for even the most simple things that are brought up.

Have to get to work now to rearrange our magnets with our Mother's Day selections at the beginning!

Re: Rearranging my listings

Excellent! Glad it could help someone at least, lol.

I think my solution is going to have to be exercising more caution when it comes to listing--as in, don't list all the craft supplies consecutively and don't list handcrafted stuff consecutively. I need a low-maintenance method because I don't always get on the computer, sometimes I just activate a listing from my phone, and rearranging everything to alternate products isn't entirely practical for me--though I do love the idea and will keep it in mind if things ever change! I'll get to shuffling things :)
