I am targeting people who don't necessarily drop hundreds on gifts, but are willing to pay a fair price for sterling silver jewelry and original artwork for their home. People immersed in counterculture, nature, and a hippie lifestyle. My sterling line speaks somewhat to women looking for something unique and interesting that maintains an elegance, not just some feather on a leather cord. Someone who appreciates beauty and also puts much value in the story of the piece and feeling a connection.
This is somewhat easy for me growing up in the far Northern California valley. There's a lot of interesting folks around here, a myriad of people, really. I let a few of my model friends have some jewelry and they showed other models who were interested. I donate art to locally owned businesses (coffeeshops, headshops, etc) where I think my audience can be found. I am active in local events and have lived in this area my whole life so it was easy to gain a local audience.
Online, I have been present in forums since I was a child (we have had a computer forever) and know, again, a large variety of folks. Word spreads online rather quickly as well. I have covred my bases. I have a group of mommy friends who order nursery art, a group of pothead friends who enjoy psychedelic art, a group of more mature folks who appreciate my sterling silver line, and friends who are much younger that seem to gravitate more toward the really affordable jewelry.
Good luck, find your niche!!
