Question on notifying customers

I have lowered some prices and am offering free shipping. Is it ethical to notify people who have "favorite"d an item? or is that considered spamming them?

Re: Question on notifying customers

I only notify people via facebook, on my banner or in a newsletter email from previous buyers.

I wouldn't send it through Etsy, I have found a lot of standard users do not check their etsy mail like a shop owner would.

Re: Question on notifying customers

I actually check my etsy mail or convos more often than I check my email because I just get so much junk in my email. I could see people getting really bent out of shape if you convo OR email them with your specials. If they join a mailing list of yours or your Facebook page, they expect to see some type of advertising but just for favoriting an item, they do not. Sometimes people favorite items for different reasons as well. There are tons of threads in the forums and teams for you to favorite the shop above you or the item that has the most hearts in a shop so some of the people may not even being favoriting an item because they like it. I am not saying by any means that your items are not fabulous I am just trying to give other examples

Re: Question on notifying customers

Definitely spam, and when I get a notification like that it just solidifies my decision to NOT buy from their shop, because they annoyed me.

Re: Question on notifying customers

I got a notification just yesterday about a sale from a shop because I favourited an item, and it instantly lowered my opinion. I don't even remember what the item was, and I didn't check their shop because of the intrusion. It might be a little silly of me to do that, but it makes a seller seem desperate - even if they -are- desperate they should at least try to maintain a cooler, calmer appearance! Facebook, Blog, Twitter, that's a great way to do it. Also, shop banner. Grab your banner then put a nice red "sale" mark on it somewhere - not so big as to look like you're clearing the whole place out (the bigger the sign, the more extensive the sale, I've found) enough that people might notice it. Plus, in shops, "Sale" is usually in red.

I would consider it Spam and just delete the message. You're better off using your shop announcement, facebook or twitter.

Thanks so much! You all made wonderful points. Thanks for solidifying what I already thought. I think I would be annoyed. I have posted it on my banner and Facebook, so I will leave it at that.
