Question on inventory numbers of your items

Good Morning Everyone!!

I have my jewelry tagged with those little sticker tags. I write the price on one side and put the inventory number on the other side. My inventory numbers are 3 digit numbers. Recently at a local show, we noticed that people would look at the inventory numbers and think they were the price and comment on how expensive my items were. I need to do something different to avoid losing sales in the future but am unsure what to do. Do you have any suggestions? How do you keep up with your inventory?

Thanks so much!! Have a great day!!
Whitney

Re: Question on inventory numbers of your items

I start all my inventory numbers with a letter, or in some cases 2.
For instance BA32 would have been a bracelet, EA or EB would be earrings, etc. That helps a little, but unless you go to an all letter or symbol inventory code system, there will always be people who mistake the code for pricing. Goes with the territory.

Great idea, Mary. Maybe you could also use dashes. That would alert the potential buyer that it's not the price.

Yes, I was going to suggest using a letter no. code as well. Using a dash before is good too, as the customer will not see a $ sign.

Re: Question on inventory numbers of your items

I sell items in a shop where we include the year and month we bring items in. If things aren't selling, they ask us to take them out. This might help you keep track of trends, as well as making inventory numbers so long people won't think they are prices.

I have the same setup except my inventory numbers are 2 letters first. My doll clothes are DC01 etc. Adult Accessories are AA01 and then I have the price on the other side. Maybe you could add a letter or two in front of you inventory number. (if there is room). It really helps me.

Re: Question on inventory numbers of your items

I keep them all in containers with different sections - each section has a letter and a number that correspond. I put three items in each box.
