Question about favoriting vs. following

Is favoriting someone's shop the same as following them? I think I have been doing it wrong in the games I've played. What is the difference?

You favorite shops and items, but follow shop owners. For example, to favorite my shop click on AribellaJewelry and click the heart below my shop banner, to follow me click on Aribella and click on "follow" under my name on the left side of the screen.

Favorites put the item or the shop into your favorites so you can find them again or see when they post a new listing.

Following allows you to see their favorites.

Thanks! I feel bad, every time I participated in a 'follow the person above you' thread, I was just favoriting their shop. Oh well, good intentions... now I know!!
