Hi @Graciosa ,
Yes! Plaid is a classic and is routinely popular during the fall & winter seasons. This year, we’re also forecasting some unexpected prints to trend like animal print and tie dye. And because this season will be all about getting cozy at home, we are also expecting people to surround themselves with soothing tones and cozy materials.

In fact, we’ve seen a 36% YoY increase in searches on Etsy containing “vintage holiday.” With shoppers spending more time at home, interest and willingness to spend on unique holiday decor and ornaments is expected to grow. We expect nostalgia to guide shoppers towards retro holiday decor like vintage Santas, big bulb lights, and candy cane style stripes.

Any tips on setting your products apart from others? Pet supplies is such a saturated market! Also, do buyers prefer to buy things individually? Like a leash or a single dog toy? Or are they preferring bundle deals in one listing?
Hi @TheSailorsDog !
Pet Supplies is such a fun category to be selling in, and your bright nautical inspired items really pop! Generally, we’ve found the best selling pet items are ones that can be personalized with pets names. In terms of setting your products apart from others, styled images featuring pets ‘modeling’ the items are a key driver as well. We’ve seen great performance from both individual and bundled listings, with some sellers electing to add bundling options for items that naturally go together: ie collar + leash.
Great question! Vintage watches are a subcategory of Jewelry, which happens to be our 2nd largest vintage category. There are some excellent tips in our Seller Handbook to help you both promote your items and to optimize your shop and listing for Search. Consider searching “Social Media” to see if there’s a platform that makes sense for you and your items, or check out these two articles for more specific information with regard to Search and Advertising.

Hello and thanks for the question, @FoundAndFlogged! Your shop looks great by the way! We know that generally speaking Home & Living is Etsy’s most popular category, with the best-selling listings in Home Decor, Kitchen & Dining, and Furniture. This is even more significant now, as people are spending more time at home! As far as specific trends are concerned: dining and serveware and retro Holiday home decor are highly relevant this season. I’d encourage you to also explore adding some lifestyle photos to your listing images to help your items pop even more! Check out this article on styling product photos for a bit more information.

I have a few seasonal soaps in my shop and I wonder about two things;
1. Is it appropriate to leave my seasonal soaps online after the holidays are over, i.e. for the rest of the year? Or does this make a bad impression?
2. For the soaps that are not seasonal, would it help my sales if I retake pictures in seasonal settings?
Many thanks!
Thanks for your question @beatrixkrause! It’s a great strategy to leave your seasonal soaps in your shop long term; this helps build SEO traction for these items throughout the year and gives you the opportunity to be surfaced to early shoppers. Your items will also be available to media outlets that plan their holiday gift guides over the summer. If you’re worried about how this may look in your shop, consider positioning these items on the back pages during the off season.

As a creator of bath & body products, what is an easy way of creating a Gift Box Set on the Etsy shop as a listing? I would like for people to be able to customize their items for the upcoming holidays, but no one seems to be able to tell me how I can do this. Do you think these Bath Gift Boxes will be a good trend this holiday season?
Hi there @MySweetAromas !
Thank you for the question — we have seen a surge in demand for gift boxes and care packages that can be mailed directly to the recipient given the uncertainty of being able to celebrate in person and anticipate this trend to rise for the holiday season. Think about creating a model gift box set to photograph as a listing, and use Etsy’s variation tools to allow customers to customize their sets.

I have had an etsy shop for several years selling custom printed vintage photographs. I have seen steady growth, and seem to have gained traction this year because my sales numbers are up by a very large percentage compared with last year.
I have two questions:
I had a tremendous overnight uptick in all statistics last week (ie items in cart, visits, clicks, purchases), and wonder if I can assume that my shop was featured and I wasn't aware of it. If this is the case, I would like to know if it is possible to have this occur regularly, or if etsy makes random selections of shops getting featured.
I have been using etsy ads, which I believe has contributed significantly to the increase in traffic, sales, etc. I am confused as to whether it is more useful to advertise a few popular items, or to cast a wide net by advertising many different listing with a much larger variety in titles and key words.
Thank you~
Thanks for your question @Retrostockphotos! It’s great to hear you are seeing a steady uptick in visits and sales. The “Traffic Sources” portion of your shop stats will give you insight into where this uptick in traffic is coming from. If the majority of this uptick came from the “Etsy app and other Etsy pages” you may assume that your item could have been featured! You can also see the percentage coming from “Etsy Ads” in your shop stats to give you an idea of how this form of marketing is working for your shop. You can learn more about how to review the performance of your ads here, to help inform your future strategy.

Hi, I have a question. What crochet baby toys and/or styles/trends are selling good this holiday season? I sell baby things on Etsy and I would like to know what to put in my shop for the holidays. Thanks, Marissa @ BabySofties
Gifts for kids and babies are popular during the holiday season and throughout the entire year given the number of new babies and baby showers buyers are planning for. Popular toys include personalized options like name puzzles, teethers, plush animals, and rattles. Many of the bestselling baby rattles include crochet elements with animal motifs. Cold weather clothing & accessories — think sweaters, hats, mittens, and hooded shawls in traditional patterns or cute animal shapes — are popular this time of year. We also see popularity around digital downloads for crochet patterns to make baby gifts, clothing, and accessories — something to consider!

This has probably been asked, but the majority of the comments I'm seeing are around shipping issues. So what is the "HOT" thing for Christmas decor this year and also for Christmas gifts? Are Covid related items the hot ticket item?
Hi @TwinkieCreatesShop ,
Great questions! In addition to traditional gifting items, we’ve seen an uptick in buyer interest for decor and gifts that speak directly to the current times. For example, ornaments that commemorate 2020 in unique ways (think face masks, or sayings like “the year we stayed home”). There’s also heightened demand for gifts and care packages that are shippable directly to the recipient, a trend we’ve observed this year given less travel and gathering plans. We also anticipate that face masks will remain popular throughout the holiday shopping season (think seasonal patterns like Halloween and Christmas!).

What is the best day to switch to Christmas merchandising when people begin to shop early for Christmas presents? Before Thanksgiving? Black Friday? Or should I integrate some now with fall?
Hi @roaminate! I’m so glad you’re thinking about timelines this early in the season. We’re seeing earlier interest in Autumn & Halloween related merchandise this year and expect that to peak in mid-October when holiday seasonality and gifting will begin to rapidly pick up. That said, we are already starting to see searches for holiday & Christmas related goods emerge, so it’s a good idea to prioritize the key seasonal pieces through October while mixing your holiday pieces for shoppers on earlier timelines this year. I hope you find that helpful!

Historically, what have been the biggest two weeks of sales on Etsy, and with the disruption to delivery this year, should we expect these weeks to be earlier?
Great question, @SewWestCoast! In past years we have typically seen holiday sales begin to steadily ramp up at the start of November, with two of our peak shopping weeks kicking off on Black Friday - Cyber Monday weekend following through mid-December. We’re anticipating a similar peak this year, and anticipating an earlier season for those planning ahead.

Holiday tags such as "Gifts for Teachers" or "Gifts For Him" are so saturated, is it still worth adding these to tags and possibly even titles for the Holidays? I feel like I have read conflicting ideas on this. Thanks so much!
Hi @MoonLightSupplies! It’s always a good idea to tag your items with relevant keywords, especially if they are geared towards a specific recipient or interest. When it comes to saturation, we find that there is strong demand for recipient-based gifts and buyers discover Etsy listings from a variety of channels in addition to search, be it the app, an offsite search like Google, social media channels and more. Adding these tags and titles, if relevant, will help with visibility in these categories across each of these areas. Learn more about how to optimize your tags & titles for Etsy’s search here.

Hi there @UptownGirlGallery,
In addition to optimizing your tags and titles for Etsy Search (more on that here!), great product photography is key! Listing photos can play a major role in a buyer’s purchasing decision and increasing your conversion rate may improve where your listings rank in Etsy search. Etsy Ads could also be worth exploring. Hi there, @MadeOnTheHook! It’s a good strategy to think about how your items may be marketed on a seasonally relevant lifecycle to align with purchasing trends and to update your original listing tags and titles accordingly. We see searches for stocking stuffers begin to ramp up in November and remain relevant through mid-December.

There are a couple of different places in your shop where you can promote this such as your shop announcement, shop banner, or even in your listing descriptions. You can also show off your gift wrap options in your listing images or via the listing video tool!
Overall, this is a great opportunity to add a personal touch to your items. Including a handwritten note along with gift wrap can go a long way in creating a special experience for the gift recipient!

What are the top tags for holiday 2020?
Hi @napleshandmade and thanks for the question! This would likely vary across categories. Tags relate directly to buyer searches on Etsy and we are anticipating top searches this holiday season around holiday decor, seasonal products & fashion, and gifts (think recipient-based, interest-based and stocking stuffers). Hi @OrnateArtcrafts! Thank you for asking. We’re always looking for new listings to feature in our holiday campaigns, and we're trying to incorporate video as much as possible in our different marketing efforts, as we know from research that buyers are more likely to purchase an item with a listing that has video.* (*Based on a July 2020 analysis of over five million buyers, comparing the purchasing behavior of those who were shown listing videos to those who were not.)
In regards to holiday trends, we are seeing an interest in soothing and comforting tones, in addition to the usual festive colors. Believe it or not, we have already started to see holiday searches picking up, so updating your keywords now is a safe bet. When it comes to choosing specific keywords, make sure you have the most relevant words and phrases applied, and be sure to consider things like the recipient, or who your items might be a good gift for. Also, on home decor, what is the most searched for Christmas, is it Christmas pillows, ornaments, what kind of decor, personalised, colour trends?
Thank you!
Hi @theurbanhedgehog! Thank you for asking. We’ve been seeing that gifting trends for kids and babies has been largely influenced by current events- think: at-home activities, DIY kits, puzzles, and educational games (check out this recent article for more on what’s trending for kids). @ARTfromMIheart wrote:I would also like to add to this question: I've seen lots of items that do mention covid-related keywords, and some are even bestsellers! Considering people are clearly searching for such commemorative items, shouldn't these tags be allowed?
Thank you for this question — as COVID has evolved this year, so have the items we’ve seen on Etsy-- we’re seeing 2020 commemorative items and gifts, ornaments that reference the current times for example, trending this season and it’s a good idea to consider offering these types of items with your unique spin.
As for keywords, I want to refrain from giving a blanket approval here regarding the use of specific keywords - as with most situations, it really depends on the item and its presentation. Keep in mind that we have policies that prohibit things like making medical claims or attempting to exploit human tragedy. It's your responsibility to know and understand these policies as they apply to your items, as well as any relevant laws or regulations you must comply with. We understand that covid and related terms like "pandemic" and "quarantine" are part of the everyday lexicon at this point and we don't seek to stop our sellers from creatively expressing this fact, but we also have to balance that with keeping our marketplace safe.
We have resources that can help; you can learn more about our guidelines for offering face coverings and covid related items here and how to get the most out of keywords here.

As an artist I would like to know if there are painting categories (subject, style, colors, size) more trending than others. For example abstract or figurative, small or large, cyan or earthy tones. Is original painting itself trending or people prefer prints and reproductions? Thanks a lot ☺️.
Hi @alchemies! Thanks so much for your question. Art is a great way for shoppers to express their personal style. Though certain styles, such as abstract, remain consistently popular, shoppers come to Etsy because they know that we have something for everyone. Color trends tend to be all over the map as well, as shoppers are typically purchasing art to match their specific decor. With this in mind, I would suggest creating art that makes you happy- the quality will be reflected in your work, and it will appeal to the right shoppers. Try experimenting with different styles and colors, and track performance in your shop stats.
Also, there’s always a market for special, original art! If you’re concerned that the higher price point of original paintings won’t appeal to all shoppers, you could try developing other items that feature your artwork that can be sold at lower price points. For example, if you offer smaller pieces or prints at lower price points, people who can’t afford the large or expensive pieces can still purchase from you. Later on they may return to acquire the more expensive work.

What tips do you on selling photographs as holiday gifts?
Hi there @AmeliaPainter! It’s a good strategy to think about how your items may be marketed on a seasonally relevant lifecycle to align with purchasing trends and to update your original listing tags and titles accordingly. When you’re brainstorming tags and titles, it’s important to think through the words a buyer might use when shopping on Etsy. What would you type into the search field if you were shopping for your product? You can also use the search field to help you brainstorm. When you type a word into the search bar, popular search terms associated with that word are automatically displayed. For example, if I type the word “gift,” I see that shoppers often search for “boyfriend gift,” “husband gift, “girlfriend gift” and more. This is an easy way to identify popular search terms that could be relevant to your product.
For tips on tags and getting found in search, check out this Seller Handbook article.
We’re also seeing heightened demand for gifts that are shippable directly to the recipient, a trend we’ve observed this year given less travel and gathering plans. With this in mind, consider updating the listings of any items you wish to position as gifts to include photos that show how the item will be packaged so that shoppers can feel confident purchasing and sending directly to their intended recipient.

At my surprise, I made 0 sale and 1 to 6 visit daily in September, even after working and adding listings, improving pictures, videos (does it really bring more views?) on almost every day. The past few months before it was better, with less listings, etc. Does Etsy is over flowing with competitors that much? Here is my shop: www.etsy.com/shop/artforheartcreations
Hi Lucie, beautiful work! As a first step, I would consider experimenting with variations in your first listing photo. For example, you could include an image of one of your paintings styled in a frame on a wall. These lifestyle shots can inspire shoppers and help them envision your art in their homes. I would then dig into your shop stats to understand what shoppers are searching to get to your shop, and what listings they seem to be visiting the most to see if you can gather any learnings from there.
Specific to search and keywords, when reviewing your stats, if you find that you have words and phrases that are not appearing in your stats consistently, these keywords may not be working as well for you as others could be. You might consider removing these keywords and trying others. This can be an engaged process, but it provides you with an opportunity to try new titles and tags when you find that older ones aren't as beneficial to your listing's performance.

Hi @NastasiyaDesign!
Thanks so much for your question. Digital art remains a popular selling category on the site. We’ve also seen an increasing interest in illustrations that speak to current events and seasonally relevant themes (your Halloween and holiday listings are great examples of that!). Beyond that, I always suggest sellers create art that makes them happy- the quality will be reflected in the work, and it will appeal to the right shoppers! Try experimenting with different styles and themes, and track performance in your shop stats.
Regarding timing, we’re suggesting sellers list holiday inventory now to attract any early shoppers who may be anticipating potential mail carrier delays or looking for personalized items.

@siideess wrote:Hi, I would like to now about the holiday trends in small furniture like small end tables and decorations? Should we change the tag lines and list them as a gift options? Should we use more holiday related words in the description?
Hi @siideess! Thanks for your question.
With shoppers spending more time at home, interest in unique furniture and decor could grow. When it comes to tags for furniture, I would consider what words a shopper might use when searching for an item like yours. They are likely to use search terms that describe the style and material, for example “modern”, “metal”, “wood”, etc. You can also experiment with a few holiday tags too. For example, “festive furniture” or “gift for the home”. This tagging worksheet can be a great place to brainstorm additional ideas: http://blog.etsy.com/news/files/2013/06/etsy-notepad1.pdf
Keep an eye on your shop stats to see what words and phrases are working well for your shop, and which can be swapped for something different.
Thanks and best of luck this holiday season!

@MylifeAesthetic wrote:As an artist & illustrator, I would like to know the trending styles on wall prints (abstract, anime, minimalist, photography, quotes, etc) What are people searching the most in this category?
Hi @MylifeAesthetic! Thanks so much for your question. While certain themes (abstract, for example), remain popular year after year, shoppers love coming to Etsy for Art because they know that they will be able to find something that matches their unique personal style.
Wall decor and art are seeing increased demand as shoppers spend more time at home and want to add some flair to their walls. Prints and digital downloads in the styles you mentioned are popular choices among buyers right now. We’ve also seen increased interest in illustrations that speak to current events and themes (your “Be Brave” print is a great example of that!).

Hi everyone,
We’re closing up this Q&A now. Thank you for all the thoughtful questions here this week! We hope you were able to get some ideas and inspiration as we approach the holiday shopping season!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and successful holiday season!
Shipping has been a little tenuous at best with covid delays. Has Etsy come up with a plan to help communicate to buyers realistic delivery expectations, and to support sellers facing shipping delays during the holiday season? (For example, will the "official" Etsy cut off for Christmas orders be earlier this year?)
Would there be any additional shipping companies we could use that would get items delivered in a more timely manner. USPS has been so disappointing w/losing items & delayed delivery. A Postal worker said mail Xmas by Nov 1
I have never seen an official cut off date for Christmas on etsy, your postal system may have one, but I've never seen Etsy have one.
I normally decide myself what it is, depending on the country I ship to, as they will be different
It is standard in the US for retailers to show on websites the shipping cutoffs for Christmas delivery.
This is an unusual year for shipping though, so perhaps Etsy can provide more guidance to sellers this season.
Etsy is a worldwide site, there is no way they are going to keep up with delivery dates for all of us.... even if there were no problems
which is why they let us use our countries carriers dates, or we can choose our own.
Hello CostumeNaomi
This is what is happening to my business....shipping delays are AWFUL - it's gotten worse due to the Emergency the Postal Service is facing and I wish ETSY would REALLY drive that with customers so it doesn't effect our ratings
Hi there,
I had a couple of questions here.
1. Q: How to link my expanded new brand with crochet Sculpture or art on it.
2. Do I need a second shop?
I was wondering whether the shipping delays are for USPS standard shipping? I have only recently opened my shop and only shipped priority flat rate boxes (not through etsy but through a different company that links to etsy) and all my shipments make it within 2 days. I even shipped one to Germany that only took a few days.
I would like to see search options for buyers to focus on local shops that offer local delivery or pickup options. This would keep sales going into December when people may otherwise not purchase due to shipping risks.
I'm a little upset about the free off site advertising that is free but I'm being charged 12 percent commission in the free service. No matter how you respond I'm being taken fir 12 percent plus a shipping fee and I'm doing all the work
As an artist I would like to know if there are painting categories (subject, style, colors, size) more trending than others. For example abstract or figurative, small or large, cyan or earthy tones. Is original painting itself trending or people prefer prints and reproductions? Thanks a lot ☺️.
Same question
I wonder if hand-painted T-shirts aren't popular on Etsy? I see printouts very often, but very few hand-painted T-shirts + I can't find good tags, tell me if I'm looking in the wrong place
Same Question - As an artist I would like to know if there are painting categories (subject, style, colors, size) more trending than others. For example abstract or figurative, small or large, cyan or earthy tones. Is original painting itself trending or people prefer prints and reproductions
I had the same basic question if it was traditional colors, or will there be colors trending like fall had.

Yes, this is a trend with staying power! Items across categories with pressed flowers continue to be a popular search on Etsy, and our floral & garden subcategory has seen rapid growth this year related to heightened interest in people nesting, and decorating their homes.
What is more trending on Etsy boho or minimalist style?

Great question, @CreationsOfTrueFairy! Both of these styles are still popular trends that speak to different audiences. Currently, we’ve seen an uptick in demand for minimal design across categories, however, boho tends to peak during summer seasonality aligned to travel and festival seasons.
How can I get my one of a kind items to be more visible in searches this holiday season? Better titles? Better tags? Better photos? I make handmade jewelry organizers. There are so many mass-produced, non-handmade jewelry organizers filling the first several pages of the search. Is there a way to market my shop to compete with these?
I make handmade jewelry and feel the same way. It feels like there is no competing with the non_handmade and it's just not right. Especially talking prices- there's no way the price of a handmade item can come even close to competing with non-handmade. I'm beyond frustrated with those items at this point.
