Possible Shop Advice?

I used to be a successful etsy shop owner, but I closed so that I could go to med school. Now, for the apartment a friend and I getting, we plan on doing a lot of do it yourself projects for it. Anyways, some of the stuff that we've been making is pretty cute, and we were thinking of selling some of it on etsy.

If we were to do this we would sell things like drinking glasses, mugs, coasters, cute chalkboards, jewelry displays, centerpieces, and various other recycled/DIY projects for the home.

Would this be a good idea? I'm asking because when I was an etsy shop owner, I sold recycled crayons, which is pretty different.

You might know, it's all in how you set up your shop. Photos, tags, titles, descriptions, etc. Either way, good luck!

Why not give it a try? All of the products you mentioned are things people buy. If you guys wanted them for your house someone else probably does too.

As long as you have room in the apartment to make, store, & ship the stuff!

Re: Possible Shop Advice?

I would give alot of thought to the overall issue. If you are moving into an apartment, will you have much space - to make things...and to store things? Think through all aspects of the idea, beginning on where you will work...to how much time you'll actually have to devote to etsy. Define your goals and objectives. Are you just looking to sell a few novelty items every once in awhile? Or are you hoping to sell a sufficient number of items to fund something? How much time and effort will it take to accomplish your goal? How will you promote your store/items? Is this a shared venture? How will you share the work...the profits... Are you both equally invested? What happens when one of you decides they don't want to participate anyt longer?

If you FULLY think through all aspects of opening another store (especially IF you do it with a partner), you'll have your answer.

Re: Possible Shop Advice?

You closed your first Etsy shop to go to med school, so will you have the time to run another Etsy shop? You already know how much time Etsy takes so I think you need to give this some serious thought before committing, especially since you have a partner.
