Please tell me what you think.

Hi there!

Would you mind giving your honest opinion of my shop? I'm interested in the usual stuff-SEO, prices, and anything else you think would be helpful. Specifically, though, are my listing descriptions waaay too long? I think maybe I'm over describing my items.

Thanks,
Dawne

Hi Dawne,
I think your listing descriptions are ok, not too long. Your prices are fairly reasonable so that's good! I like how your shop has many different shop sections, to categorize it by item. I was thinking of doing that for my shop as well. Your shop is also very colorful, you have many different shades of fabric designs, which is good for buyers (they like diversity!) One suggestion is to modify your listing titles. Many etsy sellers in the past have used the first word in the title to describe their item, ex)" bookmark" would be the first word instead of "embroidered". But that's up to you. If you want, you could always add another line or two of description in your title. Long titles are sometimes helpful because they include a quick detailed description of the item for the buyer. Those are some thoughts, I'm hope i was helpful!

Re: Please tell me what you think.

as for titles and tags, i just learned that apparently we should be using very descriptive titles with tags that exactly match phrases from the titles. if your tags aren't also in your titles, then apparently you will rank very low on search. So, for this item

http://www.etsy.com/listing/100428346/embroidered-mini-zipper-pouch-red-and

I would title it something like

Embroidered Mini Zip Pouch Red Gold Floral Small Pocket Change Purse Makeup Bag

Assuming that fits into the allowed # title characters.

So then the tags would be "mini zip pouch", "embroidered pouch", "change purse", "makeup bag", etc.

You could also try using words like "bold", "colorful", "stripe", "color block" etc, whatever fits.

i think the length of your descriptions is fine but you can probably get rid of the links at the end.

your photos are good but i would mix up how you crop them-- you know, show just a corner, or a different angle like looking at the zipper--- just to add some visual interest. i would definitely try to keep the bright white background going forward with new pictures.

Hope that helps!

Re: Please tell me what you think.

Thank you both! I will definitely work on my titles, adding keywords and matching them with tags.

@Emily Mothra Sue,
I just added every one of those links at the end the other day after reading about the benefits of having them in a couple of threads. If a shopper stumbles on my shop who isn't familiar with Etsy, those links will help them navigate (and remain) in my shop. I also read that those links make my shop more relevant in google search.
Funny you should say that about the white background. I just tried a different background yesterday and really like it, but I will see if it helps my views any. The white background is definitely quicker for me.
Thank you for so much great advice, much appreciated!

Re: Please tell me what you think.

Glad to be of help! It's so confusing, I've read that Google doesn't like "boiler plate" text, which would be anything you have in all of (or a lot of) your listings. I have my own boiler plate text in my listings and am thinking of deleting it but am not quite ready. Etsy is improving keeping people in your shop by putting the "similar items" from your shop underneath each listing and automatically adding that convo line to every listing. There's also a link to "policies" right under the shipping cost (which I actually didn't know until I just checked!). :)

Re: Please tell me what you think.

It's so easy to get different(and sometimes incorrect) information, especially when it comes to SEO. I see people correcting eachother all the time in the forums.

I think you are right about "boiler plate" text. I read that titles for similar items should not be exactly the same, so it makes sense that the same would apply to the rest of the listing also. I didn't think about the suggested listings and didn't know about the policies link. So, if I didn't notice these things, are shoppers going to? But if it makes google dislike my shop, I'll gladly get rid of them! I'm sure there are some google articles about SEO that I should be reading.

Thanks again!
