Playing with photos and backdrops... anyone have advice?

Hi all. Thanks in advance for your input on this matter. Originally my photos were quite dark and well staged then I opted for white backgrounds to try to be more on trend for etsy and treasuries. This worked at first but my views and buyers petered out and my treasuries have never been so far and few between. I am being true to my style and working with sets that inspire me and tell about how, where and in what context the soap is made. I want my bars of soap to convey a feeling and my packaging and branding all help tell that story. Am I on the right track with this?

or should I be aiming for this:

I know that selling on etsy is a journey but I really just need a formula that works...Is the direction I am going working?

Great shop, your pics with the scales are great but a little dark, they are hard for me to figure out st first glance...

Personally, I love the first photo and those with the scales. I like the personality.

Personally, I think that white backgrounds are way overrated. I think each seller should use whatever background fits their shop aesthetic and presents their products in the best way.

That said, I have to agree that the photos that show some personality are the best ones. Stark white backgrounds are SO boring! I love the photos where you used the scale. If I were you, I would take that scale and use it in all my photos - not only is it a great way to display your particular product, but it would instantly add a sense of cohesiveness to your shop.

The only thing you need to do is figure out how to lighten up the photos - maybe start by using a lighter-colored background. I would also be sure to take the photos more close-up, it's difficult to see the product you're trying to sell when the photo was taken so far away. The scale is a great prop, but you need to make your product the star!
