Planning out your time

Hey Guys!

I would like to see how you guys plan your time with your Etsy shops, especially if you work full time. I'm trying to find a good balance between work, Etsy (creating, listing, finding models, working on SEO, etc), and a social life without getting burned out.

I would eventually like to do this full time, but I'm having a hard time finding the right time to dedicate to my craft and etsy.

So, what do you guys do?

Re: Planning out your time

I like keeping work like and social/personal life separate. When I'm not out I don't check emails, don't talk about work unless I need to and see social events as time to catch up with friends and enjoy time out. When I'm working, I'm working.

Then I do photos, listings, reviewing my shop in the mornings as I'm more rested. If I'm working on orders, I will do more complex/time consuming items in the mornings and in the evenings I will do less complicated things and non urgent orders. In between I'll check emails, spend time online, promote, do finances, go shopping etc.

I find this routine keeps me energised, productive and focuced on each task. When things come up I have to adjust accordingly but these are my routines pretty much . I hope these give you an idea!

Re: Planning out your time

I'm full time at home but just can't devote 8 hours a day to the shop -- but many days it seems that way! My days are broken into segments-- morning is computer time because My brain is fresher in the morning. I work on website, Etsy listings, social media etc.

After lunch is personal time usually for a couple hours. After dinner is more time with the shop usually with laptop while watching baseball. From Saturday noon thru to Monday morn is family time although i do answer convos and usually end up working on product if nothing is going on with the family.

If I don't break up my time I tend to get burnt out easily.

Re: Planning out your time

I'm a full-time mom and homemaker but that is just as busy as working full-time, imo. When I wake up after getting my daughter's breakfast (7am or so), I first check my personal FB, etc. Then I do business computer stuff. I try to be done by 9/9:30. I'm learning that FB allows you to schedule posts so that will help free up some time for me later in the day. This is also when I blog for my frugal living blog.

Nap time is more computer stuff and crafting. Sometimes I can crochet after nap time too but not usually. Typically nap time is when I do photos (if I don't need Abby to model), edit, list, etc.

After I put Abby to bed I typically do more crocheting but some nights I take off and just read or help my husband with a project.

Like Kare, I have to break up my time. It helps that Abby basically makes me have to do that by playing outside, house chores, making meals, etc.

Social life? Ha! But that has more to do with being a mom to a 2yr old than it does business stuff.
