Pinterest Question

I caved and reactivated my Pinterest account? Is it tacky to create a board of my items? Do you use it to promote your shop or more to look at pictures of cool stuff? Any tips on using it?

Re: Pinterest Question

I use it for both, to promote and to look. I can't help looking, it's addictive, and I love the pictures.
As soon as I list something, I use the button to pin it. Then, I make pinterest a task on my schedule so I can make sure my stuff is in the right place, you know, like vintage gets filled up so I have to make up a name that people can find without too much trouble.

Re: Pinterest Question

I sell handpainted ornaments. I've created a pinterest board just for ornaments. I've pinned unique ways to display ornaments, ornaments that I like, and some of my own ornaments. Maybe you would like to do something similar.

I've heard that others create boards for just the items they make/sell...and I don't see any problem with it. Wouldn't it be nice if some people decided to follow your board?

I'm spending a bit of time each day trying to pin a few things I really like. Over time I gradually gain followers... I hope that will translate into more etsy traffic!

Re: Pinterest Question

I have a board for all my items. I also have other boards for all types of things. Love it!

I am also in charge of another team's Pinterest account. I pin all the team member's new listings and sale items to the Etsy Paper boards.

Re: Pinterest Question

you can certainly make a board dedicated to your own products. be sure to also pin other people's work, too, on other boards. not only will that help you get more followers but is fun and a nice thing to do.

Re: Pinterest Question

I'm not on Pinterest, but in general I don't see anything wrong with promoting yourself as long as A) you're fairly upfront with what you're doing, and B) that when you're using social media you're still, well, social. On Pinterest, I guess that means looking at/pinning other stuff too.

Re: Pinterest Question

The only thing I wish, when I do pin from Etsy is that the price wasn't displayed across the picture with a big banner. I think sometimes it takes away from the beauty of the object and people don't repin it. It's such a visual audience. My only other option is to link the pin to my blog, and my blog to Etsy. But that seems too round about for people.

Re: Pinterest Question

@sherri
in the note for the item you're pinning, erase the cost. if you do that the price won't be in that banner. it's actually a technique to get someone to click on the item. they want to see how much it costs out of curiousity, then theyre in your shop.

Re: Pinterest Question

I was wondering the same thing. Would it be wrong to pin my own items? And you can erase the price from your pin?

Re: Pinterest Question

Ah You're so smart Jenni Thank you for that I just posted to Pinterest and it worked. Allison when you post hit the pin button. Then after your item is pinned go to edit. The description and price will come up. Just delete that and it erases that banner with the price on it! So much better! Thank you for that again Jenni : )

Re: Pinterest Question

I don't think there is any problem with it at all! Just as long as you pin other things besides your own products, that way your boards are interesting and you'll get more traffic :)

Re: Pinterest Question

I will definitely be pinning other things. There are so many images on Pinterest that it is sensory overload for me right now.

Re: Pinterest Question

I have many different varieties of boards: one fo recipes, one for DIY projects one for tutorials and a few with some items.

I think the more variety you have the more it shows others that you are not only in it to self promote :-)

Re: Pinterest Question

Thanks for the tips. I have already started boards for books, beading, crochet, knitting and quotes I like. This site could be a real time suck.

Re: Pinterest Question

ref. deleting the price after hitting the pin it button on your item,

if there is a price on the item it is supposed to show up in the gift section,

for instance if people are looking for gifts under $25.- etc

My items have never shown up in the gift section, so not sure how it really

works, just thought I would mention it

Re: Pinterest Question

I currently have 6 boards but none are dedicated to my items alone. I do themed boards (like Fall into Autumn and Geek Girl Science Love) and then judiciously sprinkle the occasional item from my Etsy shop and include many other people items and other things like recipes and articles. Just make it a feast for the eyes and mind! :)
