I actually really love the idea! You are trying to connect on a personal level with your readers, and what's more personal than showing them your workspace? I say go for it!
Okay, I work as an upholsterer and antique restoration specialist. My workspace DOES NOT look like those beautiful spaces in Where Women Create. I think it would tend to creep people out. I've taken customers back to my workroom and I see that "deer in the headlights" look. I'll take pictures and convo to you (if you want), because it's the "Nightmare Before and After Christmas!"
I think Vanessa was discussing this during the Etsy Success Symposium - she recommended cleaning out even a small corner of your workspace to give buyers some insight into how you work and to have the photo ready in case you need it on the spot. If it's messy, take close-up shots or shoot photos of some inspiration items you keep around your workspace or something like that. I think it's a great idea!
I don't think you could handle my mess...:-)))) I would be ashamed of my messiness... I am now working on a rather big order and I am overwhelmed with leather, glue, paints, tools, paper etc. My workspace looks like after Hiroshima! :-)
I did this recently, and I got positive reactions from it. It's not a terrific space, but it's mine, and I didn't have a space before (besides the kitchen table). So I blogged about it, and got some fun comments on my FB about it.
Go to my blog, I post my work area all the time and it's truly a disaster sometimes and people seem to love seeing where I do my work AND I love peeking into others lives as well. I think its that personal'ness' that helps create the connections (what I'm looking for)and I'm inspired by vulnerability revealed. So....what's your reaction when you see my mess? http://pamssointoit.blogspot.com/ and do you want that reaction from other people?
I took pics of my "studio" ........otherwise known as the basement of our home. So far, posting them anywhere seems like a bad plan to me. The close up idea might work. Will try a couple the next time I'm taking pictures.
