Photography

Hello Etsy friends,

Let me start by saying that I am not the best photographer, i have a lot to learn.
When I started my shop i took photography at home with a neutral background, but came to the conclusion that they were not best and decided to use natural light by taking photos in a park near my house.
Now i have a mixture of both in my shop.
What do you think of the photos i took outside? Is the background too distracting?

Thank you,
Maria

Re: Photography

While I usually prefer the same background for all items, you managed to take/crop your outdoor picture so that our attention is definately focused on the item for sale. And the colours look great to me too.
So, your pictures are good!
There's just this little downside of your shop looking not completely cohesive, because of the different backgrounds. I don't know if that is important to you.

Re: Photography

Hello Maria, you have very nice items in your shop. I open ped my shop a year ago and I went through a lot of learning and reading about photography, there is no way around. We need to get good photographs, and get better at it all tge time. It is long learning process.

I think you need to show your dresses and other items with out any thing that will distract the eye from your item. They are beautiful on their own. I saw the indoor and out door photography and the indoor photography looks more appropriate to your product. It clean bright and clearly show the item. This is what a buyer want to see, the product. I have large window in my home ad a lot of light coming through it in the morning, so, I take my photographs in the noting on a table next to the window. Maybe you want to find a location in your home where a lot of light come through to take photograph.

The out door photograph is busy and noisy to my test and competing with your item. You can post five pictures, if I was you, I would post at list one picture with clean background and I would have it the first one. Ideally all the photographs would be on a clean background. I hope it helps.

Thank you Manjit Perry.
I agree with you, i would love to have a cohesive looking shop, and i think that having a neutral background helps, but my problem is that i am not good at photography, and it's easier when i take the photos outside.
I have tried using fotofuze, and although i love the result in some picture, others look awful.

I like the looks of this photo. take a large white posterboard outside or to the park with you. you could even back it with some luan and put a hook at the top to hang the items from. Then you can have the best of both worlds. :)

Re: Photography

I agree with the others that suggested combining the neutral background with outdoor light. I like to toss a white sheet over the fence in my yard and hang items from string with a clip. I photograph them when it's overcast, so the lighting is natural but not too harsh.
Good luck!
