Photography Help

Hi, I am seeking some photography advice (ok, sounds like the start of a personals ad!) Anyways, we recently moved and our studio is now in our basement-where there is virtually no natural light. We went ahead and bought a lighting kit (2 stands with shoot through umbrellas and daylight bulbs) but have had limited success with our shots. I found the shots to be blurry or for there to be a yellowish glare in some of them. As a matter of fact, we have yet to post new listings because we can’t seem to get the hang of the new set-up. Not sure if it’s the placement of the umbrellas'lights or the camera settings but any tips would be appreciated.
I’ve searched through the seller’s handbook but the focus really seems to be shooting with natural light. I’ve also scoured the internet, including youtube but haven’t found anything terribly useful for our current situation. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Re: Photography Help

I use "daylight" bulbs and then adjust the brightness on Windows Photo Gallery to adjust the brightness if necessary. Nothing compares to natural diffused sunlight - since you're already using daylight bulbs, and a lighting kit maybe just adjust a bit with a computer program?

Re: Photography Help

I only take pictures in artificial light now.

I use regular light bulbs but with paper over the lamps to whiten the harsh yellow tint.

Also, you have to increase the brightness AND contrast. If you have a Photoshoppy program like GIMP (which is free), change the curves to remove any shadows.

Thanks for the suggestion Rubi. Have tried that (although not on Windows Photo Gallery) but the problem still persists. The bigger issue is the blurriness (which no program can help with ;) and the yellow shadow. Will look into the Windows program.

Re: Photography Help

Make sure you're doing a press-and-hold on the shutter button to allow your camera to focus. Also be sure you're using macros (the flower icon). It'll reduce the blur, for sure.

Tahnks for the tips Brittany. I use Picasa for photo editing-will have to see what it haves to change the 'curves' on the shot. Not even sure what that is...will explore.
