Photo Help

I am hoping someone has a secret tip on taking photos.

I have a nikon D40 Not the best camera out there but I consider it pretty good. Sometimes I wonder if a little digital camera might be better.

My greens turn out blue purple shows up blue

I have tried with a flash - no flash - direct sun light - putting it on manuel and trying a mix of shutter speeds - photo boxes - no photo boxes different color back grounds

Yes everything I can think of short of standing on my head. May try that next.

Anyone have any other thoughts

Thanks in advance
Margie

Re: Photo Help

Can you show us an example of how bad the color discrepancy is? I wonder f something's wrong with your camera :/

Re: Photo Help

My digital camera did that with blue and purple items and its not a cheap camera. What you need to do is buy a program that will 'fix' the color. I use photodraw and it is great. Once I fix the color, I save it to file and on the net it goes. :=]

Re: Photo Help

Have you ruled out your computer monitor? Just making sure - because my items look different on EVERY computer I'm on! My computer at work makes them look super bright - my laptop makes them look dark - my husband's laptop makes them look kind of pink a bit - on my phone they are a little stretched and odd looking - on my daughter's iphone they look perfect!
I'm soon to get my new laptop, so I'll be eager to see how they look on a new, better display than I have currently. Good luck! Pics are important and challenging!

Re: Photo Help

Hello,

I use a canon t2i myself but try adjusting your saturation in your menu to see if it is set on default. That could be an issue. Are you using auto white balance? Does this happen all the time or just outside lighting? It could be something with the IR filter.

Re: Photo Help

Photoshop is great for adjusting your pictures. Is it just in print your colors are turning purple, or are you physically seeing it on the actual camera or your monitor? As someone mentioned, the color can look really different on screen in comparison to print.
Lcd monitors typically have a bluish hue to them.

Re: Photo Help

Hi and Thanks for all the advice.

Sorry for late responds but I had to go to funeral home.

I would show you a sample of my pictures( at least the bad ones) if I knew how to post them on the discussion board. My daughters only taught me how to post onto my shop. That is my next thing to learn after I get my shop looking good and more listings.

I actually have photoshop on my computer
That is what I am going to work with next and see how that works.

I don't think it's my monitor because I notice it right after I take them and look at my display screen. But will keep that info in the memory bank.

This does happen all the time inside and outside. The other nite I was changing the white balance but honestly forgot about that today.

I really appreciate all the suggestions and am getting ready to see if I can start over (with your help) and do this right this time.

I truly can't thank you enough for the help I was ready to toss the camera and hopes of getting my shop together out the window . I now have hope again. Thanks

Margie

Re: Photo Help

How to do you set your white balance? Cause this seems like a white balance issue to me.

Re: Photo Help

BTW, I would restore all the setting in my camera and start from scratch. Don't start playing with menus if you don't understand what difference it makes in your picture. Just restore, take a picture and then you see how the colours come out. If you have an issue check your white balance first.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Photo Help

Maria, I think you may be right about the white balance. Going to reset and start fresh. And I have been working with photoshop elements today. 99% sure I got it. Thanks for your help. By the way love your shop

Re: Photo Help

Yep, Reread the part about white balance. I know I need to change mine every time I move to a new place to shoot. Daylight through a norther window is different than diffuse sun is different than direct sun is different than artificial light.

If the color balance is off everything will be off. I just had to buy a new camera just for this reason. The old one didn't have a proper setting for the 6500K lamps I just got with a photo set up. The new one lets me pick the exact color temp, or I can just point it at something white and it will adjust.

And this is one reason I don;t like taking photos on my ipad. I can't set the color. Otherwise that camera is amazing

Re: Photo Help

When my daughter was in band ,one of the dad's who was a great photographer , told all us rookies that you can set your white balance by pointing camera at the flag. Maybe it was the white stripes that did the trick. I hope I can put all this good advice to use. Getting tired of taking so long to take a good shot.

Slowing me down for my attempt to get finally getting shop in shape.

Thanks alot.

Re: Photo Help

Hi Margie,

thank you for stoping by my little shop! If you are using photoshop elements and your camera setting is set to shoot raw, put your white balance on auto and adjust the light temperature from photoshop, if you want to avoid shooting white elements. If you want to avoid spending time on photoshop elements, everytime you start a shoot, have a white paper with you, direct it towards your light and shoot it as close as possible so it fills your screen. Then select this as your white balance from your menu. This will help you get it right.

Always check on your camera that your whites are white and black are black. That's the best check you can do.

I hope this helps.

PS. Your work is pretty and with a bit more work on your photography it will show even better. Keep up the good work :)
