Pending Sales Question

Perhaps this has already been addressed somewhere but I was hoping to get some answers from some of you who may have experienced this.

Friday morning I received a message, "We wanted to let you know that you have a pending sale of 1 item. We're still processing your order and will send you a confirmation email as soon as it's ready. Do not ship this order until it's finished processing. "

This morning the sale is gone with no explanation - just removed. I read in the handbook that this happens in some cases when the payment is processed from out of the country. This is not. It is a US sale and one made by a regular customer.

What is actually happening when this occurs? Is this clerical? Is this banking issues? Is it a canceled sale? Is this me? Does anyone know?

This has never happened to me. If the customer is a regular customer you may want to ask her or him. And/or Etsy admin staff.

I thought of contacting my customer but as a former credit correspondent, I also didn't want to be intrusive just in case it was possible due to a declined credit or bank issue.

I've had several orders marked as 'pending', it really can take several days for that to clear. When the pending sale does go through it just shows up in your order record where it would have if there hadn't been a delay, so you may want to scroll back through your orders to the day it 'should have' cleared. If its still not there, I would contact Etsy about that order.
