Page changes - please clarify for me

I have been working on getting myself on the first page of seach for the most popular tage I have. I began this morning and changed a couple of titles, changed a couple of tags, and changed a few descriptions. What I have found interesting is a checkbook cover I didn't change ANYTHING on showed up on the first page (down at the bottom, but first page :-) about an hour ago. I had 2 on page 3 that are now split up on different pages and I didn't change them either. I have yet to find the ones I did change - they must be wayyyyyyyy back in the pages.

So, my question is is relevancy somewhat random? Does the order change? Another interesting thing I found was the 8 items I looked at from others that were on page 1 this morning are still on page 1 now.

I heard that they rotate them and it has something to do with how many times they have been Favorited and bought and some other things.

hmmm, Would that not handicap someone who made truly unique items (like original art, etc...)

I also read that they were listed at random, but far too often I see the same products over and over again for my most popular tag. Then, I will get a ton of orders in little spurts and whenever I search for my most popular tag, I am on page 1. This has been happening for quite some time and I cannot for the life of me figure out their algorithm and I think they like it that way...

Laura, you bring up a very interesting point. I think you would be correct, it would certainly be an issue for someone creating unique items, however, if they are specific enough I would think that that tags/titles used, vs. what is being searched for wouldn't make much of a difference to that person.
