Package returned to sender

Hello everyone,

I've just experienced something quite strange and I don't know what should I do next.

On Dec 5 I shipped a registered package from Croatia to North Carolina, US. But, the tracking claims that on Dec 12 it was returned to sender due to incorrect address. My addressee says his address is correct, so neither he nor I understand what happened. I've contacted USPS, hopefully they will reply soon and explain this because I've never seen something like this, and I sent around 200 packages to the US.

Any ideas? What should and what can I do if this is neither mine neither my customer's fault?

Sorry to hear that! Did you actually get the package back, or is it lost with the (woeful) USPS?

Unfortunately, in my experiences with USPS, they're quite bad at getting back to people in a timely manner. Even though it's not your fault, I would go ahead and re-ship the item to the customer. (Did you purchase insurance?)

Not yet... If it was sent back to me on Dec 12, I guess it will reach Croatia after holidays.

Yes, it was insured (I always insure everything, luckily), so in the morning I'll go to my post office to see what can be done.

Unfortunately, I can't re-ship it now because it's OOAK, and making another piece will take a lot of time. I can either ship it again after it arrives to me or make a refund.

This is just terrible, my customer is really upset, and so am I.

Take it to the post office and ask for the post master. I had this happen last year with a package I sent to Canada. It came back to me for the same reason. BUT, the address was correct. The post master filled out a new custom form for me and reshipped it free of charge. And it reached my customer with no problem the second time, even though nothing had changed on the address.
