Interestingly enough alot of people must be using kawaii as a title, tag, etc.
I just put it in the search bar and over 87,600 items came up.

I have seen Kawaii used a lot, but it mostly seems to be in reference to Japanese or Japanese-themed items... like Japanese print fabrics or Washi tapes.

I suppose you could use it as a general "cute" substitute, but that might be taking it out of (Japanese) context.

You're definitely not that old, bc I didn't know either term when I started on Etsy, and I can't be old! Interestingly, I've still never encountered either term off-etsy.

In what I've seen of Kawaii, it seems the item often involves really big eyes, like on cartoon babies. Just my observation.

I saw these earrings. Something like a piece of pink cake or food. It has Kawaii in title and tags. I thought Kawaii is colorful, food jewelry? Never thought to investigate. lol
