Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

Hi,
Holidays are coming and of every Etsy seller wants to be prepared of course to have good sales.
I was wondering as from which time/period do you offer holiday/Christmas objects ?
I have started this morning (01/10) but I was wondering what the other shops are doing.
As from when do people actually buy gifts/decoration/…for the holiday period?

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

I keep my Christmas stockings listed all year. I don't have so many listings, and they show off my skills, so I leave them all year.

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

Oddly enough I sold more holiday decor AFTER the holidays last year, around New Years. During the holiday season I sold all sorts of vintage items as gifts but not so much holiday-themed stuff.

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

I start increasing my inventory of Christmas aprons in July. I have always considered July to be the kick-off for the holidays. By October I am running at full steam trying to keep up with orders.

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

I've always considered the day after Halloween to be the kick-off of the 'official' holiday season. At least that was the way it was throughout my years in retail (accessories manager at H&M for 3 years). The second that stores open on November 1st, they have their holiday displays completed and then there's officially no escaping it.

Christmas in July is popular in the States but I personally never considered July to be the kick-off for the holidays. But that's just me!

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

If you don't already have your holiday items listed, I would do it now! No harm in listing them a bit early. Definitely like Jaime said and make sure it's all up by November 1st.

Edit- Most department stores are beginning to stock Christmas supplies and items NOW.

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

I've been selling to people buying for Christmas for about a month already. My sales and views have been increasing throughout Sep. I agree with Nicole, above. List your holiday items now. People are starting to look...and buy.

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

Having items available early allows you to catch the people who want to beat the holiday rush, or want to have extra shipping time (especially for over seas orders).

I keep my items listed all year . . . "plant the seeds early" . . . and relist, increase items starting in Oct/Nov - don't sell that many actual "Christmas colors" - but they bring in LOTS of views from outside Etsy. Once in the shop folks generally purchase a more personal, or "all winter" color - but the Christmas colors are great 'door openers' !

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

This is not really a reply, but more of a question. Does anyone know if we can add a box to indicate we offer 'gift wrap' for the holidays. If so, how do I do it. Last year I did have requests for gift wrapping..which I did..I just thought if there was a 'option box' for the customer to check this may be an additional plus.

Thank you, Carmel

Thank you for starting this thread. This is my first "Holiday Season" selling on Etsy. I was wondering the same thing.

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

I plan to leave up my Christmas items year round, like someone said it could be a way to bring someone into your shop. Even if it's not exactly what they are looking for, they may like the design and want to see more of what you do!

Carmel - There is no way to do that that I know of, but you can add a listing for gift wrap to your shop, just make it clear if someone buys just the wrap from you and nothing else, they will get the gift wrap you would wrap an order in (and anything else you offer, think - bows, ribbon, cards etc.) folded in an envelope and nothing else. Also be sure to list it as a supply unless you make all of it yourself, wrapping a box doesn't count as handmade per Etsy guidelines.

Re: Offering Holiday & Christmas objects

I've had Christmas ornaments listed for months and have sold several already. Lots of people shop for Christmas items all year long. :)
