Occasion / Style / Recipient Categories Question

Hi All!

I was wondering if you find any benefit (or detriment) to filling out the "Occasion", "Style", and/or "Recipient" category options when creating a new listing. I don't always fill them out because many of my items could be for any gender/age/occasion, but does choosing one give the benefit of showing up more when people browse Etsy or search by holiday/occasion?

Any advice would be great! I haven't seen any posts on whether choosing these categories (or leaving them blank) gives any additional benefit. Are choosing these like getting "free" tags for the words/categories you choose?

Best,
Bee

Re: Occasion / Style / Recipient Categories Question

I think you should. It's a theory that I tested with my other shop. Also, Admin just posted this snippet from this post: https://www.etsy.com/teams/7716/announcements/discuss/16159938/

"In order to help us ensure that your shoppers can find your items by doing direct searches, be sure to add an intended recipient for each item when you create a listing. In addition, be sure to fill out the occasion field to share any seasonal aspects of your items. Consider adding these terms as item tags, too!"

Re: Occasion / Style / Recipient Categories Question

Bee, I don't think you should; your items are maps, which can be for anyone and aren't specific to occasion, like holidays, weddings, etc.

I do agree with Dee if your shop was like mine, vintage clothing; my items are gender specific and sometimes occasion specific. Your shop is different from that.

Just my opinion :)

Re: Occasion / Style / Recipient Categories Question

When I publish a new list, I have difficulty understanding the meaning Style list, how do you decide which style is most appropriate?
There is an explanation of the various Style?
