Non-Payment?

A customer ordered 2 items from me, and chose the "other payment" option. She immediately convo'd me to ask how to pay. I'll skip through the many back and forth's we had that included a paypal invoice, (somehow her email address is connected to her husband) so that did not work, so finally I told her to send me a money order through the mail. Then nothing.

So after a week I contacted her and she said she was putting it in the mail. This was over a week ago. And I haven't heard a peep, no convo, no money order, nothing. The customer has several positive feedback's and exclaimed she loved my stuff and couldn't wait to to receive the purchases and order more.

The sales happened over 2 weeks ago. Should I be pushy and continue to inquire about payment? Or should I send her a convo politely letting her know I am cancelling the sale?

Re: Non-Payment?

Why couldn't she pay through her husband's email?

Re: Non-Payment?

You might want to politely contact her and see if she has mailed it or if she'd like to cancel the order. Getting money orders can be a pain, so maybe she decided it wasn't worth it or was too busy to get one. You should probably give her a few more days just in case it is in the mail, then cancel the order and let her know that you canceled it.

Re: Non-Payment?

Ohh dear, difficult situation but I think I would politely enquire as to when the cheque was posted
Good luck!

Re: Non-Payment?

I think you can be diplomatic about it and at the same time let her know that if the money order isn't received shortly you need to cancel and re-list the item.

I quit taking money orders because "buyer's remorse" often hits when they have to write out a check and actually mail it. Then you're left waiting and wondering.

Re: Non-Payment?

Yup, I've been thinking about taking the money order option out of my shop because i never get payment when people use it and eventually end up cancelling the sale. I guess with this transaction my mind is made up!
Thanks for all the advice. I guess I'll inquire as to when she posted the check before cancelling the sale.

Re: Non-Payment?

I accepted money orders on ebay for a few years until this same thing happened a few too many times. Now I accept Paypal only.

Re: Non-Payment?

she can pay on paypal even w/o an account, using her own email and her CC. so that excuse is silliness-

it's obviously going to take a bit of time for a money order, but after 2 weeks, I'd send her a message and let her know if she can't either send me tracking on the money order being mailed or it arrives by (date in near future) then you will cancel the sale for non-payment. If she wishes to purcahse from you again you'd require paypal payment via her paypal acct. or she can use cc and check out through paypal w/o a paypal account- but either way, etc...

I keep other mainly for times when people want to upgrade to priority shipping- that way I can invoice them the total plus the extra $2 for shipping upgrade. I accept money orders, but I've never, in 6 years, had someone pay with one.

No need for you to pay fees on orders that are never going to be paid for. For me, 2 weeks would be way past my limit.
But of course, go with your instincts. :) We can only tell you what we would do!

Re: Non-Payment?

Thanks Adie! One of the reasons I am patiently waiting is, I've had another customer purchase using other, I immediately contacted them and told them my payment options. Nothing. So I waited two weeks and cancelled the sale. 1 month later they got back to me to let me know their preferred payment method! So i want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I don't want to pay those fees!

Re: Non-Payment?

I hear you, this is a bummer. I would just tell them know you'll have to cancel if you receive nothing in the next few days.
