No Use

I just bought 10 pillow boxes, to use as shipping boxes so when I received them in the mail I was so happy. I got a sale and I packaged the product up in the pillow box and brought it to the post office. THe guy working there said that the packaging was too small. I now have no use for those adorable little pillow boxes. I do not participate in craft shows very often so I don't think that they would be useful for packaging there. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can use these?

Re: No Use

Fist I agree with Sarah. But could you still use the pillow boxes inside a larger box for shipping. Maybe add a little bow to it (like getting a present!).

Re: No Use

I use pillow boxes to package my scarves. I just put them in a mailer or a little bit of a larger box to ship.

Re: No Use

Most PO's will reject a package smaller than a postcard in any dimension (3 1/2" x 5 1/2" x .007"). Some clerks will let then through, but you'll get stopped eventually. I used to send all my minis in a box 4 3/4' long and 2' square - I mailed almost 100 of them until a clerk finally refused to send one. I switched to a 3 1/2" x 7" x 1 1/2" box as my smallest unit and haven't had a problem since. I also found the price and mailing weight difference between the two boxes to be negligible.

Re: No Use

I agree... I would still use them just put them in a bigger box... I know it kind of defeats the purpose of what you wanted to accomplish.. but I think that the customer is going to love it... I know I like it when I get a package within a package...

Re: No Use

I package all of my jewelry in pillow boxes tied with a ribbon, then I put the boxes into bubble mailers. I just started doing this about 7 months ago, but so far I am getting positive feedback from my customers!

Re: No Use

Buy a package of mylar mailers, the 6x9 size and place them in there to mail. It will work out perfectly. Extra protection for your bows and will make a nice presentation to your customer.

Re: No Use

I began making my own pillow boxes for jewelry items that won't fit in my small jewelry kraft boxes... like shawl pins, purse hangers, hairpins or larger vintage pieces. I use textured pastel card stock, put my shop label on and tie them lengthwise with an organza ribbon, and ship them inside a bubble mailer.

They've been very well received by my buyers, who have even remarked about my cute packaging, and add almost nothing to my packaging costs.

So, hang onto them... I'm sure you'll find the perfect use for them ;)

Re: No Use

I would use them for inner packaging anyway. They make a cute gift box, but as for mailing, not only are they too small, they don't offer very much protection for your items.

Cher, did you find a tutorial somewhere or is it a shop secret on how you make your boxes? I'm a scrapbooker so Lord knows I have an abundant supply of cardstock and pretty paper. :/

Re: No Use

Abby, I would put them in a kraft clasp envelope, like this:

You could get them online, or they sell them at grocery and retail stores, usually 10 for $3. I have small boxes for magnet sets and slip them in there with a thank you note.

Re: No Use

I'd put it another box or padded mailer as others have mentioned :). Don't waste your lovely packaging :)

Re: No Use

Okay I decided to mail them with the pillow box with the bow on the inside and a bubble mailer on the outside. Thanks for all of the tips. :)
