New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

Hi Everyone,

I officially opened my shop 5 days ago and so far I've had about 113 views. Not sure if this is a sign of good traffic or not. I'm looking into linking my shop with Facebook and Pinterest.

My concern is that because I have no sales history and as such no seller reviews, this may deter buyers. Any thoughts?

Any ideas on how to make that first sale?

Thanks,
KC

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

Hi there KC!
Welcome! It all depends on your items. You have wonderful items, but they are on the higher end so it may take a little longer to make that first sale. Read on SEO and make sure you have the appropriate tags for your items. I believe I made my first sale after a week of being open, but I can't remember. Your shop looks very well put together and I don't believe that not having any sales will hinder anybody from buying. Be patient and keep listing, you'll get it soon!

Good luck!

Thanks Aracely for the advice. I'm working on adding more listings which will balance the higher end ones. All the best!!!

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

I listed a few of my first items yesterday with more to come in the next few days. I too wonder what expectations should be for good traffic.
Also, I've been a member for a long time and have never listed an item. Thus, no sales over a long time. Will this be a detriment?

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

I opened in February and have had 57 views, most of which are coming from friends that I'm getting to Like my shop of Facebook... So I think your views are really good!

What's your main traffic source? That could indicate if it's people looking to buy, or people having a look from your posts on Etsy. (Eg I've taken a look and as much as your items are gorgeous they're not the type of items I'd buy).

Wow I just started and wish my shop looked like yours. I feel so disorganized :) I really need to get more stuff on my shop so it looks more full. Maybe I need to list things individually.

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

KC: Congrats on opening your shop with such beautiful photography and a cohesive appearance!

While some of your lower-priced pieces may appeal to the casual buyer of teaware looking to throw a pretty afternoon tea, I judge that most of your items are intended for the serious collector. The casual buyer will be browsing on sites like Pinterest (and your gorgeous images will do well to grab her interest), but where do the serious collectors of fine china hang out? (Both online and in the 'real world') Are there blogs dedicated to that activity? That's where you want to promote your shop.

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

I'm in the same boat, opened my shop just over a week ago and am patiently waiting for my first sale! I do seem to be getting a lot of views but no sales. I know part of my problem is that i dont have many listings, but i'm working on that. So no advice but just know you're not alone! Your shop looks good to me :)

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

Hi KC,
I am in the exact boat that you are in except you have had more views than i have. A lot of the more successful sellers have told me that joining teams, forums, taking great photos, filling out your about page and store policies, and being patient have played a big part in their success. I am currently working on doing all of the above. Best Wishes to you

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

Thanks KC, same to you! I posted a link for my shop page on my personal Facebook page as well as my business Facebook page. I've been thinking about creating a Pinterest account for my business - more cross marketing.

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

I opened my shop a few weeks ago and so far no sales. I have worked on getting the visibility of the items by optimising the tags and I've had 4 items made a favourite. I've also created a few boards in Pinterest. However,so far no sales. I'd like anyone's impression of the shop and the items. What could I improve? What could I add? Is the pricing too high? Do I say anything which deters buyers? I've happy for positive and negative constructive input

Hi, Graham,

Your photos are stunning. I notice you are from Yorkshire, which is also the subject of some of your photos. I would highlight that fact on your About page, bio sketch (good idea to create both of these), and shop announcement. Why not ride that Downton Abbey wave? (Of course, Last of the Summer Wine enchanted us Yanks with Yorkshire long before Downton did.)

Re: New Shop...How To Make That First Sale?

I visited your shop and for a shop that is just a few weeks old you are doing well. Your photos look good, your titles and tags are complete and good policies laid out. Now I would work on patience, social media for visibility outside of Etsy, Treasuries for visibility within Etsy, and continue to add merchandise and refine your keywords. I think you are off to a great start.
