New Camera

I really need to upgrade to a new camera. I always have to take a zillion pictures of one item and then edit for hours to get a few decent photos.

I have no idea what to get. Can anyone recommend a camera they are happy with.

thanks
Whitney

Re: New Camera

I have a Canon DSLR that I love. I also have a pocket Canon camera that is very good, too. The best thing for you to do is know what your needs are and go to a store and play with them. All are different and the best way to know is to hold them in your hand. I also suggest reading lots of reviews to get opinions on the ups and downs of each and have an idea before you hit the store.

Terry: I don't want to pay more than 275, don't know if that is unrealistic.

Thanks Diana. I think that's my problem. I don't know how to articulate in techy terms what my needs are. I just want the photos to come out clear.
What have been your ups and downs with the canon?

Re: New Camera

Are you sure you need a new camera? Maybe you just need to know how to use the one you have. Are you shooting in "automatic"? That could be the problem-
Check out these sites they have a lot of info and helped me get out of "auto" and adjusting my own settings. Now I take a lot fewer pictures and have to do little or no editing.

Re: New Camera

If you don't know techie terms, perhaps try checking out a real camera store (as opposed to a big box retailer) where an employee will know what you are talking about.

I really love my Sony CyberShot DSC-H7. It has all the features of a dSLR without actually being an SLR, with an incredible zoom yet great macro settings (what you need to photograph small objects). I spent $3-400 on it years ago, it could be cheaper now.

Re: New Camera

I've got the same problem with my camera. It won't let me take close ups without going blurry and most are out of focus. I think it's been dropped too many times. I'll be watching this thread! A friend of mine has a canon PowerShot A480 that she likes and she takes some beautiful pictures with it, although I don't think it's very professional. But I think it's in my price range.

Re: New Camera

WanderingEwe, do you have a macro setting and do you use it? If you don't, it is best for close-ups, especially of small objects. :)
